i am getting the car sandblasted tomorrow and when i get it back i need to put some primer on it.my problem is that i have been told that self etching primer doesn't last a long time and i would need to paint it soon after.i was hoping to por 15 the floorboards as well but the guy at the local painters supply said that it is for rusted out metal and it wouldn't adhere to clean metal.i really wanted to shoot it with dp90 but they don't have that in a can and my compressor is too small to shoot any paint out of it.what is the best way to do this tomorrow after i get the car home ?just shoot it with regular primer,or self etching primer or por 15? or a combination of these

"POR-15® is a high-tech, high performance rust-preventive coating designed for application directly on rusted metal surfaces."

From all I've heard about it, POR-15 will inhibit the spread of rust when applied to an already rusted surface, but will also protect and prevent rust when applied to clean metal. I know there are guys on here who degrease and sand their entire floors andwheel wells and underbody and then coat it with POR-15, and they certainly aren't applying it ONLY on rusted parts. I say go for it, from what I've heard the stuff is tough as nails and works wonders.

Whoa, just to clarify... you aren't painting the actual body of the car itself with POR-15 are you??? I'd strongly advise against that, haha. Prime and paint the body of the car and engine bay. POR-15 the floorboards, undercarriage, inner trunk, inner wheelwells, etc.

lol no of course not, i am painting the car a dark grey color now after seeing this color on a nova here at this event called the autorama here in michigan.i don't plan on painting my car until next year but may push it through to later this summer.i was planning on doing the rear end with this stuff without sanding it down because i don't want to sandblast the whole rearend and get sand all inside the gears.

thanks i'll get a quart of it tomorrow

Only a quart? Hahaha. That may be just enough to put one coat on your wheel wells. I put two coats on the entire underside, interior floor pans, wheel wells and engine bay and used up two gallons!! The stuff aint cheap and one coat isn't going to be enough, so be ready to buy more than a quart. It's also best to top coat POR-15 with some primer and paint... it's tough but turns "chaulky" looking if exposed to the elements. Here's how minw turned out.

2 coats of POR-15 and 2 coats of primer:

Wheel wells got 2 coats POR-15, 2 coats primer, then 3 coats of Herculiner truck bed liner:

i thought por 15 went a long ways i got the car sandblasted underneath and i then used 12 cans of self etching primer on it.i would like my car to look like yours is it ok to go ahead and put the por 15 right over the primer ?the sandblasting came out great the car had very little rust as it was and my friend went overboard with the sandblasting,he blasted unrusted areas that i had already primered.
