3G alt conversion questions (w/pictures...)

I have a bracket for a serpentine setup which appears to be the '80s model from what I can tell from the ID tag.

on the bracket: E0ZE 10156 BA
on the tensioner: E2ZE-6B209-AA
and the 4-bolt crank pulley

Can you help me find out which 3G alternator I can get that'll work with this bracket, and if the bracket would definitely work with my setup. I have a 302, EFI engine with the upper radiator hose on the p/s.

I hope this serpentine bracket is the right one, I'm afraid it might interfere with the air intake. Anyone know where I can get a set of bolts for this? I don't have any nor any extra's.

Also, would 1-wire be the way to go? I've seen some one ebay - probably cheaper than getting it at the parts store, 'eh?

So for this setup I have no-A/C (for probably another year) and no power rack. I would love to get a power rack - something like randals rack or whatnot.

Any info would be appreciate! ty!
 
I've got an 87' 5.0 Stang that I upgraded to a 3G alt. Brackets look very similar to yours, can't say they are exactly the same though. Anyhow, I used a 94-95 Mustang alt, was inexpensive from Advanced Auto. Had to clearance one small spot on one bracket if I recall correctly.

Your best bet would be to search the 5.0 forums for the 3g alt upgrade for the early Fox bodies, since thats the bracket you have.
 
I don't know about the bracket. You could get a 3G for cheap at a salvage yard for the test fitting and alignment. I would run V-belts until I have the AC system and power rack items together.
 
I'm using the same bracket as you have shown on my '66 using a 3G alternator as well. I'll snap some pics tonight when I get home of how I have it all setup. It will work fine with the serpentine belt.

The only thing then is depending on your water pump configuration. Mine is a reverse rotation I think so I needed to use an A/C delete bracket so the belt could be run properly.

Like I said though this setup will work fine and the A/C delete bracket and pulley is like 150 from summitt.

I'll snap those pics when I get home from work so they'll be posted after the Blackhawks play tonight at somepoint.
 
Heres what I did on mine. Junkyard alternator (still has Taylor Auto mark on it), along with about 6' of big gauge output wire from a 3.0L pushrod Taurus, a 5.0L fox body crank pulley, and a 5.0L Crown Vic water pump pulley, walked away for about $25. I wont gaurantee that the pulleys will line up on everyones setup since I used a Milodon water pump, but it worked for me with no shims.

That looks real good! Did you have to get the connector from the donor car?

An issue I currently have, is the P/O put in a GM alternator (60 amp) using the GM connector... And now I have the EFI system.

I think mine came off a 1994 Taurus with a 3.0L v-6. I wanted the one with the small case and the small ears, but I think all of them will work if your using vbelts.

I honestly don't know how to tell cause with mine I just assumed it was and got lucky. That's prolly not the best way to do it. Someone will have a good answer for you though as there's a ton of knowledge. Maybe even do a search to see when ford started using reverse rotation pumps in whatever make the engine came out of.

That might get you some results quicker.

I grabbed the fusable link between the alternator and the factory fusebox. I bought the harness and the external voltage regulator (the dummy box for the charge light) and the pulley from somebody, but I don't remember who. These guys sell them too.

The alternator cost $25 from the Pick and Pull yard. The helicoil cost $30. :notnice: I'm into the whole thing for about $100.

It's obviously a crappy pic but you get the picture. Also the alternator I got wasn't the right size so I fabricated a little bracket which works perfectly.

No the pic is good. And I think that will interfere with the EFI air intake tube & air filter I currently have (stock 5.0 air intake tube). I greatly appreciate you posting that pic. I will definitely keep the bracket for the supercharger conversion (that'll prolly happen in 2013, lol), but I guess I ought to go to pick n pull in SA, TX to find me a 3G alt and water pump bracket. What donor veh's can I get both off of? (I'm in Corpus right now, but will go to pick n pull on 5/16 - any and all veh listings would definitely be helpful -the times I've been there the 5.0 mustang engines were all pulled, usually 3-5 of them there anyhow.... should have crown vics and mercury models - which year/model though are good donors?)

I'll go serpentine since my 60amp alternator isn't going to be enough to support the EFI, stock wiring on the '66 and 6 1/2" speakers (no subs/amp). I do plan on going with the taurus fan in the near future (1-5 months). I have no shroud, and when I used to drive the car to college it would overheat in traffic (dead stop, moving forward by the foot).

Decurion: What size belt did you use. IF needed, where could I find the spacers for the waterpump pulley?
 
Just use V belts and the pulleys and bracket you have now. Why rework the wheel?

I thought about that, and I'm still torn. I figure I need a new alternator due to the EFI amp requirements (and the 'want' to have a stereo system & other accessories such as electric fan & power locks/windows/trunk & extra guages - future projects) so I might as well upgrade to serpentine system now to save money down the line because of the pulley option I can select when I purchase the alternator (or get from pick n pull in SA).

Also, I have the serpentine crank pulley - so I just need the water pump pulley and correct belt length to run the serpentine setup..? I think my water pump is not a reverse-rotation so I'll just need to find the right water pump pulley to accomondate the setup. //the one I have has no grooves - its smooth for the backside of the belt

So I figure, new belt & a new pulley to accomondate a newer style setup would give me a performance upgrade and save me costs down the line. (I'd rather not hassle with switching the alternator pulley as I don't have the proper tools here, and I'd prefer the serpentine setup).
