Ive decided since I drive 104 miles round trip to work to get a set of headers instead of 4:10's (for now anyway). Only problem is I have no idea what to look for:shrug:, ive found long tube, shorty, tuned length etc...what does all this mean? Which one would I need to buy having a stock H-pipe? im currenty looking at these as I think these would work with my car:shrug:?

Pypes Polished 304 Stainless Steel Shorty Headers (2005+ GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!
JBA Cat4ward Shorty Headers (05-09 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

which one is going to the best overall and how much power gain can really I expect? The sound they give is what im mostly concerned about, heard a friends gt with bbk shortys today and it sounds awesome so now I want:D. And last, install...how hard??? would it be worth it to have a muffler shop do it for me?

please post up any links to any other type of header, look foward to opinions!

Shorty headers means they will replace your factory units and connect at catalytic converters. They are cheaper and on some occasions easier to install but the performance gains if any are minimal. They can help keep the heat level down if they are coated and will change the sound of your car if the design is different but in terms of power gains they are not your choice.

Long tubes are usually flow through designs that connect way under the car often bypassing the catalytic converters and overall having a much better and less cramped design. These will make the most power especially in F/I application and should be the ones to get if you want some power out of your car.

The reality is that these cars have great factory exhaust systems which are expensive to replace. If you're looking for more speed out of your car there are better areas to focus on before tackling the exhaust.

Gears are a much more cost effective mod than the headers. Headers will add some power, but won't add the same "fun factor" the 4.10s will! They do make for some great sound however:nice:

4:10 !!!! Shorty headers waste of $$$.....been there done that. Long tubes...little gain on stock motor. Only really benefit you on a heavy mod. motor.....SC,heads,cam,turbo,etc....

Best bang for the buck.....4:10!

nj doesn't allow them? I passed with my 95 with flying colors. i haven't heard anything about longtubes being illegal, but they don't do underhood checks anyway

you would fail for a visual. they are mad picky. NJ is similar to CA. they have always checked under the hood for me when i had my 98 explorer with mods and checked for cats. i guess u got lucky. if they were to look and you have the C.A.R.B Plate on the headers your good to go.
