Spring 2009 Build

I haven't posted here much lately as I've been busy on a major build.

I bought my 07 GT coupe two years ago and did a bunch of cosmetic mods right out of the gate. Last year I installed the Whipple HO at 10psi and upped the fun factor a bunch. After burning up the stock clutch, I decided to take the car to the next level and did a full forged stroker build, 6-speed conversion, and increased the boost to 16psi with a Steeda 10-rib blower drive. We're still tweaking the tune a bit to improve driveability but she has a really wicked nasty heart now.

History

When I first saw the S197's I knew that I had to have one. I didn't really start looking until the late summer of 2007. After looking around for a bit, I started dealing on an '07 red vert with a tan top. Before I could complete the deal, my wife decided that we needed to go on a family shopping trip to Seattle and after a day or so of wandering the malls, I managed to sneek off and found myself at Harris Ford in Lynnwood Washington. For some reason, this particular vista blue coupe really caught my eye and before the afternoon was out it was mine. The original exterior mods and paint were done at AutoFX in Tacoma, Washington and the lowering springs, shifter, exhaust, and wheels/tires were done by the dealership. My first significant drive in the car was the cruise across Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alberta - all the way back to Calgary in some of the most beautiful weather and scenery. Quite a way to fall in love with a car.

The May 2008 long weekend saw the installation of the supercharger and gauges. The line locks followed later in the summer. In the fall of '08 a few passes on the dragstrip finished off the stock clutch and the build plans for the winter commenced. The new drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and stereo meds were installed in May/June of '09. The build went very well with a few minor hiccups.

My plan is that this will be a very nasty street car with tastefully selected styling. The car is a summer daily driver with occasional drag strip passes. I have yet to try road course or autocross but might try those as well.

I was expecting the Whipple to make more power @ 16psi, especially on a 298 stroker?? :( (This guy is running 16psi and making over 575... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3210831)

I get that question alot. As I understand it, the Mustang Chassis dyno reads lower numbers than a Dynojet - somewhere between 11% and 14%. So my 535 would be equivalent to somewhere between 600 and 620 rwhp and just over 700 at the crank.

We need engine bay pics! It sounds sooo bbbeeeaaauuuutttiiifffulllll. :D

I'll get some new engine bay pics and post them this weekend. In the meantime, you can see the engine bay in the walkaround video.
 
Did I miss it? What is your quarter mile?

Last year I made six passes on my old setup with a pooched clutch and street tires. Sad to say did a 13.1 at 115mph. I don't really intend to race it that much and need to get a decent set of wheels/tires for the strip first. That's the main reason I haven't done the rear brakes yet.

Those six passes were the first of my life so driver mods are certainly required.
 
was the 13.1 in Calgary? 3000+ feet, it could make a difference. I know the elevation has less of an effect when your talking forced induction, but it still may have slowed you down a bit. Although the 115mph trap shows that this was a low 12 second car with proper traction. I cant wait to see what you pull in the new monster. Just doing some quick calculations, I would guess, low elevens at 120+ mph. That is definetly going to be tricky keeping control of the car down the track... and after the initial wheelie. :p Especially once you get the 3.73s put on.

It was in Saskatoon actually (1580').

At 11.5 things start to get complicated with cages, SFI certs, etc. I'm not sure that I like drag racing enough to go through all that hassle. We'll see. I don't have that stuff on my mod list - yet.
