You can lop 250lbs off the front of a GT500 by switching the front suspension setup out for a Griggs SLA.

Not calling you a liar here, but have you got number to back that up? 250lbs is a tonn of weight in just suspension components. Most front end suspesion set ups are knocking off 50-80lbs at the most.

The big brake kit is notorious for squeaks and noticably doesn't stop all that much quicker.

This I'd like to know because I just purchased one of these kits for my GT.

I thought Saleen and Roush both get their kits from Stoptech. The parts are identical and interchangeable except color of the calipers which is different. Could the squeaks be a function of the brake pads which are used (I believe ceramic PBR's). Also shouldn't Roush and Stoptech Kitted owners experience the same issue? And couldn't the mediocre braking distances be caused by the fact that Saleens are usually heavier and also run heavy 20in wheels?

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a lot of these issues people experience with these kits result from not properly bedding in the brakes as the instructions for the kit demand. The factory installs the brakes and customers drive off the lot without knowing to do so.

That pretty much brings the weight bias back inline with the standard GT(Saleen).

I pretty much thought that too but something just doesn't add up. If you read the GR40 website they say they take off 261lbs of stock equipment and replace it with their own stuff, however they say when they replace it with their hardware the weight savings is around 30lb (unsprung) which is in line with what Gearbanger is saying. On the other hand they make the claim later that car has a weight bias of 49.8 Front and 50.2 Rear.

Either way there's no doubt that what they do works great

The Saleen brake kit is made by Stoptech, the same kit used by Roush. Most high performance brake pads sqeak and make dust. I am sure the 20" wheels don't help either, lot of rotational mass there.

GT500, there are many of them out there living very well at 750 to 800hp and still very streetable.

You're right. After many service complaints, my dealership created my position, and sales reps were instructed to introduce prospective buyers to me so I could flll them in. The pads weren't so much the problem as the bedding process. The rotor and pad compound (early 05-06's) were a hard compound and did not work as advertised unless broken in. As first, Saleen would ship new rotors, and then advise me to perform the bedding process. Then they just advised to do the bedding process. 10-15 35mph to 0 high pressure stops is usually what I did to take the squeaks away. I've never driven a GT with the Saleen brake kit so I'm guessing the 20's hurt stopping distance a little. I've driven hundreds of Saleen's and yes, as they are configured, they are not worth the money.

GT500. Saleen is no longer in business. Parts will be harder to come by for any Saleen-specific part issues. If you had any intent on keeping the car stock for any time period, the remaining warranty is most easily executed with the Shelby. Steve Saleen said his new company (SMS) will honor the Saleen warranties for owners, but I haven't looked into if it covers the vehicle after the original owner sells it.

For all the afore mentioned reasons. The only reason I don't have one is the upfront price, the cost of insurance, and the gas bill. All those ponys are created with gasoline.

This is true, but all those ponies only make themselves present when you've got your foot in the oil pan. Resist the temptation to hear the blower whine and drive it sensibly and you'll knock down comparable mileage to a GT.

Id go with the Saleen. First off the center exhaust isnt fake you can actually buy just that exhaust so you know it isnt. Plus the gt500 is wayyy overpriced for nothing honestly. Its heavy as crap and I know tons of Gt's that will just kill the gt500. I know you said out of the 2 but the stage 3 roush which is actually cheaper than the saleen is rated the best of of all of them. Its supercharged, better 0-60 times. It depends on what your wanting it for. If I had the money there would be no doubt that Id go with the saleen. Not that many people have them, at least where I live I see gt500's like crazy.
