Sold my bike: What to do -Supercharger or Heads?

Ok, I decided to sell my 87 ZX1000r. I now have the money to finally get my supercharger installed and have it dyno tuned with a custom chip. There is a great local race shop that does all the work.
Should i take the time and buy a set of heads first? I was looking at GT40 iron heads...not P's...they run around $300-$350 on ebay. I don't know how much the install would be with adding that on as well. Should i spend the extra money and drain my savings and have them do the heads and the charger, or just do the charger and drive it like that till next year?

If you have enough money to do both and still be able to eat and pay bills. I would get em' done at the same time so you can see the huge power gains!!

I really want to stick it to my buddy who has a highly modified MR2 Turbo that has been beating me at the track for years now.

Forget those GT40s get some AFR 185s or 165s get a custom grind cam and u might not need that supercharger

AFRs........ ive heard them called 100HP heads in a box ........yeah then u dont have to worry about throwin belts boostin your motor to death and that anoying noise u hear that ruining the sound of a nice juicy NA motor................HA HA bring it on blower boys

I would love those heads!! But they are soo expensive.
I've been sitting on the supercharger for 2 years now, i think i owe it to myself to finally see the install through.

well if u already got the blower...........if it was me i would put it on ebay and buy some AFRs with money to spare........i dont know what size injectors u got but im sure u know the expenses to go with a blower too many times i seen friends buy a supercharger on ebay or wherever then the spending begins brackets fuel system i can go on ETC.

My advice, if you are doing one OR the other, do the blower. If you're doing the same as me and collecting parts, do both. I'm currently sitting with a stock motor and an extra one getting a comp 284hr, h/s rockers custom for t/f heads, twisted wedge heads, ported gt40 lower, tubular upper, vortech s trim, etc...

Yeah i can do the heads no problem but i am a little skiddish about installing the charger. They are going to tune it and burn me a chip. It all comes into a time factor...or lack of it. I also feel better knowing a shop did the work when it comes to the engine, instead of second guessing my work.

You can always get a blower later on, and when you do, then you'll have one less bottleneck in the system with the heads already taken care of. :nice

I Disagree i helped a freind do a supercharger install what a nightmare go to your job do what u do best to make the money and then pay a professional at what he does best in the end u will end up with a more reliable build. I feel good enough changing my oil, thermostats, clutch cables things like that the rest i leave for the professionals unless u are a mechanic by trade. In the end look at the job Rick from RNH P. did for me alot of the build was my ideas but i left it up to Rick the results speak for themselves.

What's hard about putting a supercharger on? I've done it 5 times and while it is time consuming, there's not much hard about it.
If it's one or the other, would you rather have a 60-80 hp increase(heads), or a 150+ increase(supercharger)?

I say heads.Give you a better base to build off of. But just my .02. ur car so up to ya

putting a blower on is about as simple as bolting a bracket to the heads and relocating the accesories, the worst part is tapping the oil pan, somone could easily just bolt everything together, and keep the oil feed dissconnected and bring it somewhere to have the pan tapped.

if you can do a brake job, you can install a blower

I had never installed a blower until I did mine. I had some minor tweaking to do but that's purely because I wasn't running stock brackets and components. I would never pay someone to do my wrenching, you'll never learn until you do it yourself. I would buy the heads, pay to have them gone through, and if you can do it, pay to have them installed. The blower I would tackle yourself. But keep in mind you'll have to have the supporting mods like mentioned previously.

To each his own i dont doubt theres money to be saved by doing your own work. But me personally i find my time to be to valuable when i can be atving with my 9 year old son, upkeeping my house time with my kids and weekends aren't long enough as it is, still i try to do what i can within reason but the work Rick from RNH P. did for me even if i had the time im not gonna kid myself mine would not come close to his so when i open my garage and stare i feel great knowing my motor was built by one of the best

Do the blower, if you can afford the heads get em, if not dont worry about it.
