I got my first stang but when i got it the guy did'nt have the title and told me that he was told to go to the tag office and do a title 42 on it???? Its got a texas tag. Is this guy ripping me off or is he right? I am having tranny problems with it and i dont want to start putting $$ into it and end up giving it back to him. I just got it today but im going to call tag office tomorrow to see what they say but i wanted to know what you guys think...

Give it back to him and get your money until he produces a title. Right now you're in possession of a car in which you don't legally own. How do you know that you're not in possession of stolen property?

Never should've handed over money and taken possession of a vehicle without having the title physically present at the time of sale, in the first place. Now, if he wants, he could probably claim you stole the vehicle and wind up with both the car AND your money.

If a refund is out of the question, I'd at least try to either get him to cough up a title for the thing or otherwise work with you on making the car legally yours. Otherwise, you may be S.O.L. and stuck with a car that you can't legally register in your name, unless you can apply for a bonded title or something along those lines.

well i got it in wrighting that he guarantees that i will get a title or i get a refund. He was an older guy and very nice but you never no. I was always told not to buy a car without a title but he was forsure that i would be able to get a title. You guys callin B.S????

I wouldn't call BS just yet, but my own personal distrust of mankind in general means I'd want the title in hand when I took possession. He may very well be an honest, give you the shirt off of his back type and just need the cash now, while finding a seller who's willing to wait 4-6 weeks for a duplicate title.

FYI here in FL, I dont know about TX if you pony up another 60.00 at the title office they will print a new title on the spot and you wont have to wait. but the registered owner has to do it. if you go asking for a title they will laugh you out of the office.

I assume you are in OK? I googled title 42 and got a lot of info.

STORAGE LIEN

If you have car,truck,motorcycle,boat,van,rv, mobile home in your possession and you don't have a title, I can help you with the paper work and the notary that is needed on each form that is filled out. You have the right to file for a storage lien on the vehicle in order to get a title for it. If I find the last owner then I can send them a certified letter, but if not then I have to run the add in the paper for 3 weeks in the county of which the sale is run on the storage lien. The paper that it is run in has to be on the State List or it will not go through. After all of the procedure is run then I turn in the filled out forms and it takes the state about 2 weeks to get the results back to you.
After you get the title 42 papers back then you can take those papers to your tag agency and they will issue you a title and a tag upon payment.


MECHANICS LIEN

If you have a vehicle that you have done work on and you have permission to work on it from the owner,
and they are not paying for the work then you have the right to file on the vehicle for a mechanics lien.You will
need the customers name, address and phone number You will need date of the work order and information
from the work order. This is the information I will need from you so I can fill out the forms and notarize you signature and you need to bring and id. I will run the record on the vehicle and if I find the owner and the lien
holder to send a certified letter to. If the vehicle has a lien holder in the state of Oklahoma you need to file
after 30 days and before 60 days.


What To Do With A Vehicle Without A Title

It is against the law to sell a vehicle without a title and if you purchase one without a title it even gets messer.Now I got this vehicle and what do I do with it. I cain't drive it on the street with no tag and if I get pulled over in it with no tag and it gets impounded then the problem is compounded. Help can somebody please get me out of this mess. Now I have a big bill and cain't get my car out of impound because I have no title. Boy that car was a good deal huh. Was it worth it to pay under half price and get a mess that you can not keep or drive. You know you can not keep parking it in the driveway with no tag because here comes the city to give you a ticket to either move it or to bring it up to date. Gee I would really like to do that but no title.
Surely there must be someone out there who can help me get a title to this car. Some one that can understand my problem, and can help me out of this mess. I really wished I had listened to blank blank and stayed out of this mess.
Have you ever been entrapped in the circumstance before? It really is not much fun but you know you saved alot of money and the guy said he had a title. What he did not tell you was it also had a lien on the vehicle and now you find out that he really did not not own it all. Ever did this or been in this mess well if you have been here then now you can understand why the service that I do is so important to so many people.

SO basically, you can't drive it until you get the title. Like everyone says, you shouldn't buy a car without a title. But good luck getting it straightened out.

i got ahold of him today and he is taking care of it and is paying all of the charges. What happend was, he bought the car from a car lot and the lot lost the title and told the buyer that they would send in for a new title but it never got done.... So he called the lot and called me and got all my info and was going to have the new title mailed to me in my name. He has been very good about it and has been calling me and telling me everything that is going on.

Not very often that you come across a honest man.

that doesnt sound like its gonna fly. seriously I would take the car back to him and ask for your money back until the title comes in.
either that or get a notarized contract stating that if the title never shows your return the car and get your money back.
