How do I convince my wife this is a good deal?

I currently have an 05 v6 coupe, but the fox body has always been my favortie mustang. I've been somewhat looking for a decent project the past few months. Today by total accident I think I found one. It's an 89 LX 5.0 automatic. Faded red interior and black spray paint on all body panels. The body is straight for the most part. It'll need a new hood, trunk and possibly some molding, but those are not deal breakers to me. The seller has it listed for $2500 obo which in hawaii is pretty decent, but I think I could get him down to at least $1800. The problem is I still owe 8K on the 05 and my wife is not big on having a third car. Any suggestions on how to get her to buy in on this deal?

Married 13 years....there is nothing you can do to convince your wife. Trust me. I couldnt convince my wife that 1800 for a 1 of 71 blue 86 SVO was a good deal.

I think i just might have an in. She just called complaining that her neck and back hurt for the second day in a row so I encoureged her to go get a massage. I still have yet to mention the possible new stang though.

That's probably the only stumbling block. I don't actually have the cash on hand, but a loan for that amount won't really put us in a bind. So I'm sort of torn.

I just tell my wife this is what I want to do, and she'll toss in her 2 cents. She'll either make a statement that gets me to see its not a good idea, or she wont. Either way in the end Ill do what I want to do, and just deal with whatever I get from her. Which usually isnt much. She knew going in I was a car guy, and it helps that she drives a Mustang herself, and loves cars.

IMO I'd wait till I had the cash to buy a Fox. You don't want to take out a loan for it and then have it break down. Then your going to have to listen to her complain about payments on a broken car. If you had the $1800 I'd say buy it, you earned the money, get what you want.

+1 on this. My woman isn't a car person at all, but she understands that its my thing, so she takes me how I am.

Well, I brought it up to my wife at lunch. She wasn't too excited about it. Long story short she has shot it down (for now at least). We have to go to an even that shares a parking lot with where the stang is parked. HOpefully I can convince her it wold be a good investment. Wish me luck.
