Timing Cover Gasket Questions

I am in the process of replacing all the gaskets on the timing cover. How do I take the center one out? the little round one that is around the crank and the harmonic balancer? Any other tips I should know why I'm down there?

I knocked mine out with a punch and hammer. Be careful not to damage the timing cover itself any. Just work your way around it until it finally comes loose.

When installing the new one, it's best to find a socket or something similar that is the same diameter as the seal. That you can use to drive it in the timing cover.

Timing cover

Use silicon sealer( the blue is called Smurf Glue) between the Timing cover and the oil pan gasket. Make sure you do not rip or tear the oil pan gasket(especially if it is a rubber oil pan gasket) when installing the bolts up through the oil pan.

Once I got the old one knocked out, I took it and flipped it upside down and used it to tap the new one in.

All you'll need to do in terms of timing cover/oil pan seating is trim the cork end gaskets to fit and put a bead of black rtv on the corners

that is what i have done multiple times. seems to be working ok so far.

I couldnt get a couple bolts to line up then the guy for called to tow the Chevelle so everything dried now I have to start over.

Are you working or not?

sorry man, i had to do stuff saturday morning and then get up to the dyno.

did you get everything finished up?

yeah I had everything finish Sunday night. I just need to fill it up tomorrow and change the oil.
