Thinking about installing a set of AFR's on a 302 shortblock rebuilt back in the 1980's. Will this cause any problems? Car is running well, no oil consumption, putting out about 230hp right now with the old 4v heads. Probably about 20,000 miles since the rebuild.

I have a set of AFR 165's with Pedestal rocker part #1472 IIRC. They work on my roller shortblock with stock pistons and a cam with .521 lift just fine. The intake gasket is in fact a 1250 and the cc's are 61 for pedestal heads. Great heads, you will like them. They have worked well for me but I am in the process of building a Boss block based engine and need larger heads.

If you DO have 4 bbl 302 heads, then you'll see a drop in the compression ratio. The 4 bbl 302 heads had 54 cc chambers. The AFR's are probably, what? 58, 60 or 64 cc's?

i believe that the 165's had 58cc chambers, but the added flow will more than make up for any power lost by the lower compression ratio.
