Taillight Tint on gt?

just pop the lights out, i have used Night shadeson one of my cars, light sand and make sure they are clean and you cant put light enough coats on it. take your time I did like 10 coats but they were very light, you will see how its going.

I'd imagine it would be easier to tint the inside of the taillight on those. Pop the lenses off and apply your tint there.
Of course, our taillights are dim as it is. Unsure if i'd want to reduce my stop light light output to the point where i run the risk of having someone rear end me and detroy a LOT of hard work and sweat. I want my brake lights BRIGHTER

On mine i had leds and they were pretty bright. i wouldnt even care but my fogs, headlights, and 3rd brakelight are going to be smoked/ will kinda look wierd if the taillights dont match. if i painted from the inside would it appear tinted on outside or still be red i wonder? and yea they are gt cheese grater ones. i dont like the lx or gt ones so..
Yes, tinting inside would still keep the lens pretty red. If you want the lens to be black you'd have to do the outside which is a PITA
IF you do pop off the lenses, paint the inside backing silver again. Usually, the silver is faded, moldy and flaking. I did this on Hack Job and the difference with that thing and other fox bodies was worth it. The lights were brighter and actaully made it bright like on 99-09 Mustangs. lol
Yes, they pop off. LX and GT backings are the same. Just heat them up with a heat gun....don't get the stuff too hot in one spot of the paint and plastic will melt and bubble. Evenly move the heat gun. They scrape off old buetel tape and buy some thin new stuff to seal it back up.

I had tinted taillights on my car and was informed by a man dressed in black and blue that I couldn't have tinted taillights... I no longer have tinted taillights.
im going to tint mine over the winter. i have an idea as to how im going to tackle it...if it works out i will let you know. legally u can't run tinted/smoked tails....i have run them on almost ever car ive had and ive never had a problem....if brightness is a concern swap to leds and that will increase the bulb brightness....but slowling apply tint...light coats is key and wait for them to fully dry and hold it up to the light to make sure its not getting too dark on you. i would also clear coat them when youre done so they dont look dull. if you dont feel good doing it with a rattle can bring it to a local body shop and they should clear them for $25-50 just do all the prep work yourself. good luck ill let u know how i make out.

Yeah, police around here give lots of people in our car club a hard time about it. Threads all the time. They don't get pulled over at night, it's during the day when the lights are off.
Run LED's....problem solved
EH, I'm honestly not a big fan of them on black cars anyway. The previous owner had installed the tinted lights, so it was an excuse to just go back to stock. It also had super dark limo tint on the windows and tinted headlight covers, and between those three modifications the car was really difficult to drive at night. So after I got pulled over the 3rd time or something like that, I just gave in and took it all off.
LED's are only brighter if you use the boards and direct project them. The LED drop in replacement lights are crap. Unless you spend $60 on the high dollar 8w SMD LED's, you will end up with a dimmer light than if you stuck with a halogen bulb.
Next time you are on the highway find a benz, infiniti, caddy or something with LED taillights and look how they are designed. You got 50+ LED's and they all point outwards. Now look at a modern halogen style taillight. 1 bulb and still lights up as bright. So replacing the halogen bulb with an LED bulb with 20 or so LED"s and then reflecting the light isn't as efficient as a modern OEM LED taillight. Look around and you'll see none of the OEM reflect project their LED tail or headlights...everything is direct project.
It's the same deal with HID's in reflector headlights. The focal points for an arc tube vs a filament wire are totally different...plug the fact that the fox 9004 housing uses ZERO glare shield in front of the bulb. Switch to aftermarket clear lenses and that's one glaring headlight!
If you can't tell, i'm all about stuff working properly as designed since i'm an engineer by profession

+1 i never could understand why anyone would want to dim their brake lights.
Ive got a lens that about to fall off (again), it only has like 4 or 5 of the clips on it plus the tape so im going to take it off and paint the silver when i fix it.

I wonder how bright the tails would be if instead of painting the inside silver you actually had it plastic chromed
