Hello All, having a noise problem with my 2010 GT Cpe. It almost seems like it is coming from the two center air vents on the dash! When I get up to 60 MPH or so, I get this "whishing" sound, almost like a tornado sound. It does not stay constant, but comes and goes. Its not a rattle sound. Hard to describe. It really is kinda crazy. It will do it when I am on and off the gas petal. I thought maybe it was a knock in the engine, so I went up to Premium gas ( I will remain there), but still have the noise. I checked under the hood, and the only place I see a noise might come from up front, is the underside of the hood, there is a shield tacked onto to the hood,, and it seems like there is a wire harness in there, and when I tap on it, it rattles around. I haven't tried to unsnap the hooks yet, didn't want to tear it. Is it possible it has to do with the cold air intake on the 2010? Anyone else having the problem with their 2010? any help would be greatly appreciated. Tom

The cold air intake makes a whooshing sound but only when you're on the gas. You're saying it whooshes at 60mph constant?

Are you sure it isn't your air vents? What's your setting on the climate control?

I put premium in my 2010 and went back to regular. I noticed a slight increase in torque but a huge decrease in mileage/MPG.

Its not constant at 60, but that is where it basically starts when it does do it. It comes and goes. It will do it when the A/C is on or off. I have a feeling its got to do with the air flow coming into the car. I checked the vents, but why would the setting on the climate control matter? I'll have to go back to the dealer to check it further.
I know what you mean about gas mileage, and premium gas. My mileage dropped dramatically when I put Premium in. I guess you have to re-tune to the 93 octane. car ran fine on regular before, just switched to 93 to see if it had anything to do with the noise problem. I don't like paying the extra .50 cents a gallon to fill up, if its not necessary.sometimes that just in your mind. Thanks

You do know that starting in 2010, Ford put a "sound tube" going from the air intake tube into the cabin to "enhance the driving experience", right? Basically, it brings the sound of the air intake into the cabin to make the car sound more sporty, and it would explain the "woosh"sound that you describe.

I thought they did that in 09, and discontinued in 2010?? problem is, the sound is not constant, it comes on once in a while and last for maybe a minute, then goes away. It started to do it when I got over 60 MPH, but not it does it at low speeds. Its not that the sound stays there, just comes on for a minute or so, then goes away. Its like a crackling, whooshing sound, and definately seems like it comes from the center vents. I thought the 09 had it come from an entrance hole in the floor board, near the clutch? I don't have any entrance hole in my car. Thanks for you help, if you know more about it please fill me in. Regards, Tom

Eric,
thanks so much. I know I was hearing more from the engine, I had at 2008 GT, but I just thought it was the way the exhaust was responding. I have a feeling the noise I am hearing has to do with that IST, and I think it could be a malfunction. I hear the normal increase in engine sounds all the time, but this sound just "shows up" for no reason at all. It doesn't just happen when I accelerate, or down shift, or put more pressure on the engine, etc. I'll just be driving on the highway at 2000 RPM, and it will start chirping!! Like I said, it only last a minute or two, and then I might not hear it for a while, or even the next day. I'll have the dealer look at it. If other 2010 GT owners are having the same symptoms, please let me know.
Thanks again, Eric. regards, Tom
