HID Conversion?

As far as i can tell not many people have done this and even fewer companies make parts/kits for this.

I'm intrested in swapping the stock lights out for a HID system. But im kinda confused and was wondering if anyone knew a few things. 1.) Does it matter what kind of actually headlight housing I use, am i going to melt the joker down? I was always under the impression HID's got mega hot. 2.) if so which housing should be purchased. 3.) is it really worth it, or should i just go to american muscle and buy a oem style kit and just deal with what worked 20 years ago.

Im mainly a night driver and visibility is important to me because its alot of back roads with deers and crap and lets be honest the more you can see the better. Im not really worried about blinding my local population the car sits low enough that it shouldnt be a huge issue once they are properly aimed and focused.

I have HID's on all my vehicles. HID's actually are cooler than traditional halogens. Just stuff them in your stock headlights and you're good to go

You'll have to upgrade your wiring. Use the stock headlight harness to activate a relay that runs directly from the battery. These lights draw a ton of power on startup.

Try not to go above 6000k bulbs. The higher in k value you go, the dimmer the actual light. Human eye sees best around 4000-5000k.

I run 6000k in my g35 (oem hids) and it's pure white light, but I do notice a little loss of visibility compared to the stock 4300k bulbs.


FYI, hids in stock fox headlight housings glare like a mofo. Doesn't matter how low you are if you are lighting up tree tops.

I had hid's in my last... i got my wiring harness from suvlights.com
ran e46 bi-xenon projectors/ballasts ... which were nice to have high/low beams in one assembly.

i would throw some ultra clear headlights from 50resto into the project.... they will keep a nice cutoff line without all the stock fluting and whatnot..

i ran mine in smoked headlights... killed my light output... but you couldn't tell they were there until i turned my lights on.

nothing you can do about the glare im asuming? what about if i go ahead and do the 50resto ultra clear headlights? or are there better headlights i could use like projectors with hids or something?..... im not a head light expert lol so im asking from everyone elses experience.

You would need to do a projector retrofit. Some guys here have done it...but it's all custom fab work.

Basically, you retrofit a set of hid projectors into some stock clear lens headlamps. The beam cutoff is perfect but as I said before, it's all custom.

I dont think the HID's int the stock headlights are that bad. The 50 resto ones have a reflector inside of the so its the same as the stock light pattern just much brighter. And about the current draw, most HID kits before were only 55w kits, now they come in 35w kits for a true plug and play installation. No need to wire in a resistor, just hook it up and go. Mine works great and makes the car look awesome

the only thing i intend on blinding is trees. specifically the trunks of trees.

note... those are smoked stock style lights... they would have a perfect cutoff line without the fluting... such as the ultra clear lights.
