starting issues

Hello I have a 1968 mustang i just had the 302 rebuilt. It has an eletric choke and msd 5200 box and a petronx ignitor. i can not get the motor to start. i put the distributor in on tdc and pionted the rotor to the n1 wire. It does not even try to fire unless i spray some starting fluid in the carb and then it just back fires. It is getting gas and spark and compression i can not figure this out

Betcha $1 the distributor rotor is 180° off where it needs to be. Ask me how I know.

second what 2+2GT has said, also double check your firing order, ie spark plug wires

should i put the engine on tdc agian and then flip the distributor
