Fuel and temp gauge quit - suggestions

The car is finally on the road. Carb and blinker issues are resolved ( thanks to suggestions here). Of course, now I am on to the next issue.

My fuel guage and temp guage quit working. They had been functioning just fine until recently. When I start the car/turn on the key, they both peg all the way to full and hot. Shut the key off and they drop back down to to the left.


Suggestions on what this might be? I have mot dug into this yet, but hope to this evening.

Sounds like the sending wires are grounded out somewhere, possibly on the back of the cluster.

that or the ivr is bad.

I thought about the IVR...but wouldnt the oil and volts peg out too if it were the IVR...definately worth a look still, I did the electronice IVR mod I found on one of these threads...no more pulsing gauges.

the ammeter is on its own circuit. as for the other, what is likely happening is that the power is finding the ground it needs through one of the two gauges affected. in my case it was the oil pressure and water temp gauges that were going funky.

I was thinking IVR too, but if the other guages work then I'm going to say wiring issue is to blame.
