I Got No Noise.

It could be suggested that you did not use enough Bud Light when you set up the gears. I have a Motive 4.56 set in my 82 that I set up, probably 3-5 six packs over a couple months, and its amazingly quiet, even on the highway at 70!

No clue why. Gears are a little bit skill, knowledge, and art.

I hate Bud light. If beer could compete in a Strong man competition, Bud Light would be the 98 lb weakling.

The whole story around "the gears" isn't so much as to the brand name, as to the original design purpose of the gearset.
The Motive gears I mistakenly bought and had installed were for an off-road 4wd application ( Who knew that they even had such an animal) They were cheap,....(119.00 Brand new from the distributor) and they were NOISY straight outta the box.
In the ensuing conversation w/ the Motive rep, I learned that that particular SKU was cut w/ less attention paid to the finish as the by product of that (noise) wasn't a consideration w/ it's intended usage.

So yeah,...I could've bought a replacement set of Motive gears designed and intended for street use in a car,..or the Motorsport set I ended up w/ and had the same perfectly quiet end result,

I still hate Bud light.

i need to do this myself anyone here locally in michigan know how to do this swap

I have been told "Its easy to do". BUT If you never did it before and want to try it: Just pull the diff cover. Put some rocks in there and close it back up. That is most likely what it will sound like if you screw up.

Or.......................you could always use sawdust to quiet it back down after you put the rocks in there.
I read it somewhere,......I think it was on here.:chin

Wasn't it the same guy with the PI head bonded to his trunk floor with some kind of high tech, space age, jet engine super glue?

Yes,....now that you mention it it was. He had some junk he bought from GE aerospace that he paid something like 225.00 for a pint of.

And then ended up using it to glue a used PI head to his trunk floor as ballast.

What a giant goob, loser that dork was...

Uhh haha. I think.

Nahh,........He's alright, I guess. Some people think I know that guy in the same way Peter Parker knows Spider Man,...But that isn't the deal.

I talk w/ him every once in a while at the Cruise ins,...He's really kinda funny when you get to know him,..... at first impression he comes off as just a regular guy, only after you get to know him, He can seem like a HUGE PRICK.

One thing about him though, it's hard to tell when he is for real, or pulling your leg. He did buy that glue that most people think he just made up,..He showed me where he'd put it on a piece of .032 aluminum, and you couldn't beat it off w/ a hammer. He said the other day at work he told a customer that the reason she was hearing a "thumping noise" under her right front fender was because there was a dead cat jammed up in her strut tower.

I've had a set of Motorsports 373/install kit/ traclok rebuild kit sitting in my garage for 2 months now. Still haven't talked myself into doing it. Probably gonna end up at a shop.

That's how long I carried that Msport set I had. I'd put them in the trunk when I'd take it to one of those sorry auctions to sell the car,.. so I could say that the "cure" for that awful noise was new in the box there,...and then bring it back home and put them back on the floor. In, out,......in,..out.

I am going to the last 2 days of MW in mrytle beach,..and driving it all the way there and back.
There was no way my wife would sit in that car and listen to that racket w/o hounding my ass the whole way there, so I had an additional reason to get it done.
( The noise she'd have made would've been noisier than the gears) :rlaugh:
