Build Thread My 1986 T-top Build - Lasting Memories

Once again Dave.... Fixt......
Lol
LMBO, alright Chris, my idea. Next time I'll be careful not to tread on your innocence!:jester:

The 335's just ended up being too problematic at my level of skill (and time management).

They are nice, no argument, maybe on the next build? I have a bad feeling that this won't be my car once "others" have an opportunity to drive it......

Will those others appreciate that you can't even feel a GT stripe on the hood? Will they think it's cool that the rear tires are really badass? Will they know that the engine bay is smooth and not full of holes? No, probably not, but the next car will be soooooo freakin' badass.......

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://get.adobe.com/reader/

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160-$200. It does not include any gears or shafts.

http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.

Alternate sources for the T5 rebuild video...

T5 Shim kits – best product I have seen in a while… http://www.5speeds.com/t5/shims.html
“The Peel ‘n Place T5 World Class shim kit makes shimming T5 counter gear and main drive gears very easy.”
Hanlon is down right now, ddperformance is good though.

The cost of rebuild kits has gone up, roughly $300-$350 range now. Doesn't matter, I want to learn how to do it now.

You are a wealth of information sir, thank you.

I have been watching several rebuild videos already, they certainly give a guy confidence, don't they?

So, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to sleep tonight! I'm finally painting Doby tomorrow, not to mention all of the paying jobs I have to paint.....

I can't wait to see the engine bay done, it was a bit of work, but enjoyable.

Tomorrow morning...I sleep to five!!!

Thanks brother, I've been waiting for paint for a while now.

My manager wanted me to wait till now to bring it to the shop, which worked out for sure with the engine bay smoothing.

Don't let @RaggedGT o_Oconfuse you, I'll be fitting 315's under Doby's rear. I'm going to do a two inch mini-tubbing just to give plenty of room to tuck those tires up under the 1/4's.

I've got some neat (maybe not original) ideas to rework the suspension for this.

I'll start getting after that next week, bunches of cutting and welding.

THEN, I'll finally start putting some of my new parts on the car!

It'll finally be a "build" thread, instead of a tear down and cut up thread! Yay!
Sounds good man. It's going to start coming together real soon.

Black magic happens inside of a transmission... I only touch the bolts that hold it to the motor, lol. I usually tell myself to stay in my own lane when it comes to voodoo and black magic

This is gold. I'm saving this quote and putting it in my garage lol.

You guys don't get it ( some of you do).
I'm not really upset about my UFO paint pavilion, and that collateral damage that came along with it. You can poke, thump, smack, kick, and slam me all that you'd like. I am hardened to circumstance.

It's just another instance where I'll have to do it again. Matter of fact......

Hell Mikey, you have to know I'm just screwing with you. I understand how bad of a deal that is, it sucks. But, like you, I would be pissed at first, irritated with myself, and then move on.

You just provided us with entertainment that you usually don't show us, and I personally want to say thanks, it was fun.

I do, and that's my point.

While not the best thing to have happen, I'm not sittin around in my underwear with a gun barrel in my mouth either. Some guys are walking around on eggshells.
If the paint had turned out perfect I'd be cryin' but since it didn't, I'm like,....

Nothing like practice to make it better the next time.

So, today I only have three customer jobs to paint.

I think I will be able to get Doby in the booth this afternoon to shoot it's engine bay.

I got the engine bay about half way masked yesterday while waiting to get my daughter, progress.....

I'm having withdrawals from not working on Doby in the garage. Bright side is, I can't sleep past 3:30 now!

Oh well, next week this time I'll be knee deep in my wheel tubs! Looking forward to getting after that.
