So my coupe has a little fire damage (meh) but it is fixable. However it is a four cylinder conversion and to get the insurance company to insure it for what it is worth is somewhat cumbersome. Sorry even a four cylinder coupe is worth more than $800 bucks.

So I'm looking at buying a V8 roller and transfer my stuff over.

Currently I came across these two in my price range:

608AAEEF-AFC6-4270-8794-9324A537073B.jpg

This one sadly has a salvage title but has been repaired ( quarter panel replaced, frame verified straight), 5 lug swap wheels, no interior, smoothed bay no engine wiring, 96 spindles locked up calibers, but $1200 dollars cheaper

Second

Built rear 3:55 strange axles, complete interior and wiring, paint is so so, 94/95 spindles clean title

I think I know the obviously answer, but heck you guys know best :hide:

For me...the grey one. Clean title. All the wiring is there, etc etc but if you don't mind wiring in a new replacement harness and don't mind the salvage title...toss up really.

It is a Calypso, but the only thing that is a deterrent is the salvage title....might run into same boat I'm in now.

I'm partial to Calypso. Was your wiring damaged in the fire? You said you were moving your stuff over, right?

Here's a tip about insurance and foxbodies.. NO regular policy will pay you what it's really worth. You have to buy an agreed value, or stated value policy. You eant to insure the car for $X and the insurance company sells you a policy for another $X. I use hagerty.. I hear grundy is cheaper, i may go with them soon. I insured my car for $25k and the policy was around $750 a year iirc.

That said.. buy the car you want.. then insure it the right way.

New harness after the fire. Well when you go to agree on a policy with either of the two companies mentioned, don't you have to provide pictures for evaluation or is like I think its worth X and I'm welling to pay that price to ensure it? Bc my car is ugly and needs paint

you would be better off just not declaring it. Id rebuild, even with a salvage title would be a good race car, seeing as its a calypso and pretty clean.

Meh.....A salvage title isn't the end of the world....All a salvage title means is that a freakin insurance company totaled a car that to them wasn't worth repairing...

How much do you think an undeclared value 4 cylinder fox mustang is worth to an insurance company before they total it?
1k? 2k?.

A salvage title is a big deal when the car costs 10-20 times that. Obviously, a quarter panel repair will total a Fox mustang.

The red car had a salvage title. It was submerged in water at one point in its life before I got it.

It sold for 14,500.00 when I sold it.

For that reason, the green car would be my choice,...the grey one looks to have 96+ spindles on it as the tires are pushed out beyond the fender line.

Salvage title I wouldn't normally care. However, lil back information one of the guys I go to track got side swiped...not major but his car would fall into one of those 9K plus categories. Full coverage, and they wanted to total the car due to price of repair, Obviously, he had the wrong insurance company, bc they only see a foxbody as 3Kish-5Kish which wouldn't even cover his drivetrain.

I'm looking at just finding a decent looking body, that I can insure for its value or more. Now if I can find a company that will insure a ugly four banger for 8K or more, then a body may not be necessary.

Talk to your insurance company.

I had a stated value policy on the red car. It was insured for 20k. All that I had to do to do that was meet w/ one of their approved vehicle inspectors (the guy I went to built and restored antique/collectible cars). It was painless. I returned to the ins company,..handed them the signed form from the inspector, they wrote the policy, restricted me to 7500 miles annually,..Done.
I think it cost like 350 every six months,...maybe that was for the whole year, I don't remember.

Listen to Mike. It ain't difficult. I had to take 4 pics of the car, engine, interior, exterior showing each side. List mods/accessories. Write the check.

Yes, both sides, front, rear, and interior. I insured mine as "modified" and had to provide a list of mods.

Still, should be easy to at least insure it for realistic replacement value or something more than $800 at least. I have mine insured for $10K with Haggerty and that wasn't that hard at all. But at least if the car gets stolen, you get something more than Kelly blue book back for it.

The kicker is the rules required to insure with the other two. Must be a second car and you need to have another car insured as a daily driver (I think Grundy requires 5 years or newer too) and the car needs to be garaged and you can't use it for daily errands or to commute to work and such.

Based off that criteria you just listed I think it would help some people to understand why that's justified if we simply say, "This is COLLECTOR car insurance". You don't just get this insurance because you have a car that you feel is worth more than what your current insurance company will pay you in the event of total loss.

@Black1987 If you want a junk car go with the green. Only half of the coupe interior transfers to a hatchback. The salvage is a killer regardless of color. The gray car looks like a nice car and is worth the additional $1,200 IMO.

Good luck

edit: My boss gave me my annual review last week and I was told to be more "diplomatic" to management. So I'm sorry, let me rephrase, the green car is not "junk" but sometimes the "salvage" part of a car bites you hard in the ass down the road and you may regret not spending a few extra bucks to get a clean title car. The only way you get some decent return on a salvage car is only if you part the car out.

No need for explanation, I agree the salvage's repair could come back to haunt me and the value if I sell it in the future.

The collector car insurance thing tho, is my coupe is not the prettiest thing, no real paint, and no garage. I mean you guys have seen pics of the car. I have a 2014 and 2015 car so no problem there, but I'll look into it.

Haggerty did not ask me to prove I had a garage at all. It might come back to bite you if the car is stolen out of your driveway (I'm sure they will want a police report) but I never got asked to prove this in any way.

As for the car's condition. Fox bodies are collectable. I'm sure they will let you insure it with them, but you might not be able to set a $20K value however. Set a realistic value and I'm sure it will be fine.

I like the wheels on the grey one as well, and I'm not wanting $20K just like 6K just in parts. I also have the same bullets you have and would like to see the difference in appearance.

As far as the likelihood of car getting stolen im about 2 miles from a public road and then 2 miles deep into a national forest on all sides of my property on 40 acres with multiple gates.....not a garage but meh haha its possible I guess.

I think your current coupe is worthy of an agreed value policy for "x" amount that'd be negotiated between you and the collector insurance company. I was just pointing out that this type of insurance is for pleasure vehicles regardless of condition, not daily driven vehicles that you depend on to pick up the kids and get to work. Most of us want to protect our investment in case something bad happens. Some companies will limit miles, where you drive the car, and have other restrictions. For me, my Hagerty policy has NO mileage limitations and they said I could only drive my car to work about once a month. I negotiated the trips to work because with the long winters my driving season is much shorter than others. I only drive my car from April to November so they said I can drive my car to work 48 times per year which is more than enough. I have $15k in coverage, 100/300 protection, and pay $480 per year (lump sum only).
