If you are going to run slicks I hope you don't have a stock clutch. Also consider suspension.

Agree. Also, different types of racing require different techniques. Drag racing requires what you're talking about, but autocross and GT style track racing should avoid slicks and use a different setup on the suspension. I know everyone seems to love drag racing their Stang, but GT and autocross are more of a challenge for the driver.
 
When my 2000 Gt was stock, I would launch around 4500 rpm running drag radials and slight suspension tweaks. I just played with it until I found what worked well for me. You should do the same.
