Ok that makes sense, I'll bump the timing in that area and see how it goes.
The car is a 5spd. (T5)
Do you think the timing table is too conservative overall?
I don't get any detonation and seems to have good power so far.
IMO I would wait to bump the timing up until you have the fuel tuning near complete, nothing wrong with what you have right now.

Well this is kind of an update.
I took the Stang out for about a 30min. tune/cruise session this weekend.
Fuel VE table seems to be almost dialed in, power feels good, no detonation,
Some low speed bucking but that seems to be getting better. Got it hot restarting
pretty well at different temps.

The issue I've been dealing with is a bouncing, sometimes erratic, factory tach needle.
It's not bouncing around on the tuner studio screen just the factory tach and it only
occasionally seems to correspond with some loss in power.

Not that long ago I had to replace the stator in my dizzy and did so with Ford
electronics.
What I realized today is the only non ford internal dizzy part is the shutter wheel.
So I searched through my boxes of old parts and found my original Ford 302
shutter wheel (car is now 393w). After some research and measurements it
seems the aftermarket shutter vane sizes seem to be just larger than the factory spec
and the spacing when held against the factory wheel is quite a bit off.
Not sure if the differences are contributing to my tach issue but it can't be good, so I
went ahead and swapped them.
Now I'm waiting on my new fan controller to come in since my old one :poo: the bed Saturday.
Luckily I was home idling in the driveway when I noticed the temp starting to climb, shut it
down before it could cause an issue.
I'll be sure to update with some more tuning related info once
I get the fan controller installed.

Glad to hear the car is driving well. I'm very happy to know my TFI days are behind me.

What kind of ignition are you running..EDIS ?
I've been looking at doing an EDIS set-up but still researching exactly what I would need.
At this point I'm going to run it with the TFI but may change in the future,
 
For EDIS you will need
-edis8 module
-coil packs
-pigtails for making harness
-36-1 wheel and vr sensor
- cam sensor

The single hardest part is mounting the trigger wheel.

I have a working setup I just pulled off my engine, worked great.
Not sure what the pimpxs has internally but if the hardware is there I would see if some unused pins can be converted for direct coil control.... this will be an undertaking.
If you do go edis a cam sensor from an explorer will need to be added to not only drive the oil pump but to give a signal so the sequential injection still works.

the single biggest contributor to idle quality when cold is the AFR, the car will not want to idle lean when cold. shoot for an idle AFR at least one full point lower than the warm AFR when cold, this particular engine was happy and idled well as lean as 16AFR once hot but when cold it wanted an AFR of 13.

the timing is very important once the engine starts to lower in RPM in this example at 120*F the engine uses the idle advance timing table and goes to 20* of advance, the idle rpm timing correction curve then adds/subtracts timing to help keep it stable.
 
Just to update:
My idle ve was turned off, not sure if it is what stinger intended in the base tune so I'm waiting for a response from them.
I tried turning it on but need to work on the tables, it was super rich.
The few changes that stinger made have definitely helped, idle only rolled about 200rpm for a minute or two

Idle ve is an advanced feature that is only available with the ms3 (what stinger uses as the base code) it is not turned on in the base tune they provide.

Without knowing what they changed it's hard to guess what they think the issue may be, i assume it is fuel related.

What is the afr when the car is surging/warming up?
 
They adjusted the dashpot adder % and the upped idle min duty %.
They also adjusted the fuel in that area but only slightly.
I currently have fuel adjusted so car idles around 12.5-13.0
I've tried making it richer but didn't seem to help the rolling.
Not going to mess with it today it's 100* and humid in the shade,
us N.E. folks aren't used to this..lol.

the accel TPSdot threshold % is set at 50.
If I'm understanding this correctly it means that accel enrichement only takes
place above 50% TPS ?
I would think this should be set at a lower percentage, thus engaging accel enrichment
at less than 50% throttle ?
FYI tune is set from stinger for full TPS enrichment , no map.

When you datalog pull tps and tpsdot up on the same graph and compare the two, then add accel enrichment to get tma better understanding of how they interact.

This same concept can be used to tune the idle settings, many settings are dependent on the rpmdot (rate of rpm change) in closed loop idle.

Btw: making the accel enrichment threshold to low can result in erroneous engagement of the enrichment. This will cause drivability issues and bucking.

You can tune this in the driveway actually. Lower then throttle delta threshold so that small throttle changes don't trigger it. Then set the small adder pw to cover off idle enrichment.
You are looking for a full point drop in the afr when getting in the pedal. I usually tune cars for 11.5 afr at tip in, this provides clean crisp throttle response.

So when you say lower it you mean raise the % , i.e.i'm currently at 50% so a % greater than 50 ?
 
No I mean lower it. The lower the tpsdot threshold the more responsive the initial accel enrichment will be. Don't get carried away however you can go to aggressive and cause yourself issues.

Tpsdot = how fast you press the throttle
 
So did a quick test & tune drive today lowered the TPSdot threshold in small increments from 50% to 45.5% and it
definitely helped with lean tip in ! Not sure if 4.5% reduction is considered a lot, may need more reduction but
it went in the right direction. Low speed buck is there some but that improved as well, I'll post more results
when I have time and tune/datalog if necessary, thanks for the help!
