I have a good running computer (actually a few A3M, A9Ls, and A9P), but as a gift to myself I looking to get my feet wet self tuning before going to another boosted application.

So pros/cons of the systems
It would seem as far as features
MS3 > PiMP > PnP

MS3 and xs offer sequential injection from what I have read vs batch of PNP the only performance difference is efficiency as far as mileage and idle. Horsepower wise the systems preform relatively close on the same applications.

Price
MS3 < PiMP < PnP

Installation difficulty
PiMP = PNP < MS3

Both the xs and PNP are plug and play and MS3 as far as i know is not.

Few questions

Each require either a narrow band/wide band but do they require regular O2s?

Anyone try two of these for comparison?

PiMP is a plug-n-play using the MS3 Platform

PNP which I am assuming you are talking about the MS2PNP from DIYAutoTune is a MS2 platform

MS3 which I am assuming you are talking about is the standard ECU without the PNP feature of using the DIYBOB (Break Out Board) to directly plug into your stock wiring harness.

I do highly recommend to go with the MS3 platform due to be able to handle anything you can throw at it without the pitfalls of running our of I/O's like the MS2 and can wire your VSS sensor for speedo, boost-by-mph, economy/performance features, etc. @a91what will be able to help you even more.

I am just the MS dash guy

Installed PimpXS last spring and have no regrets.
I am by no means a tuner...but my confidence level with this system
has grown and before I stored it for the winter my car was running really well.
Big thanks to a91what.

The ms3 will need to be wired in to your harness, or you will have to make a harness adapter... a little extra work for sure but i like the idea of being able to use the one ecu for anything and being able to alter it... but im comfortable with that.

the easy way is to order the stinger pimp and plug it in. you will need a wideband and can run 2 of them [one for each bank if you so desire too] I suggest the spartan 2 WB as they are cheap and very reliable.

To save money you could buy the MS3 with the expansion card and build them yourself 630$/// buy it built 730$ and use a rotunda cable to tie into the harness with... or just pony up and do the stinger system.

clear as mud??

I guess the is the rotunda cable I assume plugs in to the ms3 break out and then it would need to pinned into a male fox end to accept the existing harness or do they sell one in the same?

Is there any benefit of going the MS3 way over the PiMP except the price. Features wise seem to be almost the same, but with the MS3 if one would decide to do a different engine swap say LS then it can be repinned ?

The rotunda cable has the 60pin on it, you would tie it into the ms3 harness so the stock harness is not damaged.

The MS3 can run anything. The MS3x can even run a coyote engine with all working vvt ect...

The PiMPxs has the 60-pin connector & uses a case that fits inside the kick panel. The white circuit board with cpu is MS3.
I thought about getting one of these to replace my MS2 DIYPNP-F60, but MS2 works & $1000 to upgrade to MS3 doesn't seem worth it.

Stay away from anything from DIYAutotune. Designs are not well thought out & CS is spotty. I have no experience with Stinger.

Little confused by this, you have an MS2 PNP and no experience with the other two (pimpxs and ms3)?
But your experience with DIYAutotune for the MS2 is spotty?? As for not worth $1000....these 3 options are within $300 if I’m not mistaken

Pnp =$839
Xs = 950ish
Ms3 plus cables = $850-900ish

@a91what link to cable?

I have a rotunda cable in a box of you need one.

So with the rotunda end, you would pin the ms harness respectively to the year model mustang harness in question.

I guess this is where i fall into the weeds.
DIY has generic hook up instructions for majority of MS systems. However the MS3 it refers to the manual which i might of missed their interpretation of generic hook up for MS3? I guess this is used for guidance for all applications.

Also are there preexisting pins ( two fold question, pins already on ms harness or pins in the rotunda adapter) or do you have to solder and/or build the ends?

It seems the MS3 and Pimpxs are very similar except the pimp is pnp and can only run fords with it 60 pin connector.

The last question in that generic hookup, is there a known schematic of what using the rotunda pnp into harness I would assume eliminates the fuse block and uses the ones in the factory harness?

@a91wait are the cables you already pinned?

I currently only have one cable in my stash and someone already claimed it.
The cables are simple to find and I even have all the instructions needed to repin them.
Thats all good, I’m just trying to figure out on ms3 how the pins cross over and if there are any subtle differences in the 87-93 harness set up. My 93 harness i verifed all the pins back when we all traced down to a wrong O2 harness causing my intermittent issues a while back.

When i look at ms3 above it appears almost as pseudo schematic to me when compared to the mustang one...i.e not able to follow the water

Lol just tell me what you need to know and I can make up a pinout for you
It would just be for 93 5.0 harness to ms3

What I’m trying to clarify is on the left the 93 has each pin for each injector (8 pins) when the generic ms3 has bank 1/bank 2 supports up to 8 injectors off 2 pins?

Yes the generic ms3 is batch fire like the pre 87 ECU or the crown vic. It will run just fine batch fire, sequential will not a small gain in idle quality and mpg.
The ms3x expansion card allows for full sequential injection, it has 8 in injector and ignition outputs.

So I need an expansion board for sequential injection supports eight pins but batch runs off two pins not four....I thought batch fired 2 at a time.

But yes a better pin layout would be helpful.

So each injector driver is capable of firing 6 high impedance injectors at one time. So each pair of complimentary cylinders are wired together on each bank.
Ie.... just like wasted spark but with 2 drivers instead of 4.
So in standard trim the ms3 can fire 6 injectors per bank or 12 injectors with 2 drivers.

Now when you add the ms3x card to the ms3 it gives you 8 injector drivers, so each injector will have it's own output driver.
