Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

Thanks for the info. I rented a slide hammer from Auto Zone that came with the bearing puller attachment. Getting the old bearings out was a breeze with the slide hammer. I'm going to order some new bearings today from LMR or AM. When I got the other ones from Rock Auto I thought that they were just an updated bearing/seal combo. Apparently not or maybe there is a setup different from mine that uses the other bearing.

I like Rock Auto for the prices, but I've gotten several things from them that simply didn't work and had to be returned. I haven't ever really had any trouble returning things its just a PITA.

When I bought the bearings last year the intent was to install them then, but then the holidays hit and we got busy. Now a year later I'm getting around to it. No big deal though.

At some point a good slide hammer puller kit will defiantly be added to the tool box! Actually I have one on my Amazon wish list. That all my family uses for buying each other stuff. I always keep mine loaded with tools. I can always use new stuff. I get a lot of tools for Christmas LOL.

I would give them a call and explain the situation. Even if they give you “store credit” it may be worth the phone call. Their customer service has been pretty good every time I’ve needed anything.

Holding the new bearing up to the old it was obvious that the new one was slightly larger on the O.D.. It also has an o-ring around the seal end. With the OEM suff the area of the axle tube is slightly larger where the seal goes in, but the larger end of the new bearing is also larger than the oil seal.

In the pic above the seal is on at the top and the actual bearing is on the bottom.
 
I can google search it and find other places that say it fits a 92 mustang 5.0. I just don't see how. I even tried to get it started last night, but it didn't want to. That's when I started comparing it to the old one and realized that the new one was slightly larger.

I might just do that. I'd like some feedback from the group first to confirm that I'm not just looking at the issue wrong. I dont want to complain or try to get a refund/store credit if the problem is me!
 
It looks as you just accidentally ordered the incorrect part. What you have there is a repair wheel bearing that includes a sleeve to fix the housing. I assume there isnt anything wrong with your axle ends, so you should be able to just get the right bearings.

Slide hammer and the bearing puller kit are the way to go to get these out. I bought the puller kit, but usually just rent the slide hammer.

But I agree with others...that bearing is not the right one
 
You nailed it! Not knowing what repair bearing meant I got them. It seemed like a cool part as it was all one unit, bearing and seal. I read the description of the part, but just thought the "repaired a bad bearing". Which is what I wanted to do. I know now. Well if I ever need to "repair" the wheel bearings I've got a set!

It even says "Replaces O.E. Bearing and Seal"
 
Unbolt the sway bar from the control arms. Then just do one side at a time and there is no reason to remove the rear end. Leave one side completely bolted up. When you take the shock loose on the other side with a jack under it ya should get enough lowering to take the pressure off the spring. Once that's out just unbolt the control arm.

Christmas in October! Very nice. Good call on the uppers. If you go solid or poly on the uppers and lowers, the geometry of the stock suspension can cause it to bind and potentially damage the torque boxes. I think Maximum Motorsports has a great explanation on their site under torque arms. Basically the short upper arms and longer lower arms are trying to swing in two different arcs when the rear end travels. The mushy rubber stock bushings have enough give to help prevent it, but then you get bad wheel hop, so they had to add the quad shocks to fix that.

I’m sure I missed it somewhere, but which Eibachs are those?
They are the Sportline. I hope it isn't to low. It sits low in my opinion anyway. The tires that are on it currently are not as tall as factory tires. Thats what the PO had on it, so when I put new tires on I just went with it. It makes the wheel gap slightly larger.

 
Got to mess around a little bit last night. Finished the driveshaft.

Fedex came through with the new shocks! I went with the AGX because :shrug: . I've got them on the front and they seem fine for what I'm doing. Figured it would be good to stick with the same style all the way around.

I went ahead and pulled the lower control arm off of the passengers side of the car. It doesn't look so hot!

Do you guys reuse the rubber thing in the middle of the spring? What does it do?
 
Here's the old control arm. The rubber isn't that bad. Now the uppers. From what I can see of them they are in bad shape.

I'm a pack rat so I'll be stuffing these in a corner somewhere for safe keeping!

Does anyone know what this is that that seems to be broken of the reverse gear of my transmission, at least I think its reverse. It's a little plastic tip in the center of the gear.

Wow, that spring is terrible.

The little plastic nub on the end of reverse is an oiling funnel. Part number 1352-034-002 (E5ZZ-7L276A)
