Hey guys first post here, I’ve decided to coyote swap my 89 notch and was hoping to get some input. After doing some research I’ve settled on buying a junkyard f150 5.0 to start with. Local junkyard has them for 17 to 2100. Now I already know I’m gonna have to purchased the ford wiring harness and ecu kit which is about 1700. Now eBay has a 5.0 long block for 900 with 200 shipping, would it be better to buy that and just purchased a used intake for about 300 bucks???

I would get a complete motor from the salvage yard. It will come with fuel rail and injectors. Make sure it comes with the engine harness also. You should not need anything other than that for the motor.

I used the ford control pack for the 2011-2014. Also running the f150 motor so the tune is a little off. Been waiting to get it taken care of but still drives great. What are your plans for power steering and brakes? I chose the manual route and although its not that bad I plan to switch to hydroboost and power steering.

You will need heater hoses if you want that or loop the lines. Id suggest spacers for the k member. You need a Mod motor k member and mod motor mounts. Id suggest aje had no problems with it myself. You will need headers and the rest of the exhaust of your choice. Mod motor flywheel and clutch **Has to be the 8 bolt flywheel** they make 2 versions a 10.5 and 11inch. Bell housing depending what trans you are running same with starter. Cross member for the trans your running or make your own. Mod motor coolant over flow tank. Gas pedal mount. Fuel lines and either a covette fuel filter with regulator or a install a adjustable regulator and run lines.

There is a lot more that I am forgetting. Very easy swap depending on what you want out of it and well worth it. Let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks for the write up btw, first time attempting this, my brother and dad are helping me with this both are great mechanics. I’m doing the manual brakes and steering just so I can speed the process up a bit, trying to get done for the fall. Already have 4.6 mounts and k member from a previous build. Can you still run a ghost tune on these trucks engines? Would that be a decent tune? Also what trans did you run? I’ve found a couple junkyard 6 speed for a 11’ on up mustang for around 1500.

So my junkyards around here have plenty of the 5.0 truck motors but they cut everything off when they pull the engine, still worth 19 or 2100?

Yes . I wouldn’t waist time trying to install a mt82 6 speed . They are a headache to fit into a Fox for a weak transmission . T56 is the way to go manual . If not you can use a tko 600 , 500 , t45 , tr3650 .

The original car I did we used the aje k member and it was great . We also used a stifflers transmission crossmember . Scram speed gas pedal bracket . Bbk long tubes and X pipe for the swap . This was a gen 1 engine and control pack . Used stock fuel rails and then AN adapters and ran our own fuel lines and fuel System in preparation for a supercharger which it did get .

The car I’m doing now has a Team z k member. 6r80 auto with a stifflers crossmember . Hooker stainless long tubes . MM steering shaft . GEN 2 engine and control pack with transmission control . Using a fox shifter , sn95 shifter cable and Power by the hour bracket and shift stop . Same thing for fuel system - adapter fittings and all an lines and a pump with a cell . ( used to be a race car . ) This one came to me motor and trans in already but a mess . So I am getting the wiring re done and fixing all the odds and ends to make it a street car .

For your manual brake and steering I recommend using a maximum MOTORSPORTS steering shaft . Also use their manual brake Kit .

Calypso car was the one we did in 2013 . No expense spared .Black is the one I’m currently slowly fixing now .

Not worth the work for the mt82 ive heard lots of bad about them. You also have to chop up the trans tunnel to fit it and set up the hydro pedal. I started off with tremec 3550 with a mod motor swap bell housing. Just recently upgraded to the 03/04 cobra t56 and twin disk clutch.

Toolow is right about the manual brakes cant go wrong with maximum thats what im running and have no complaints. everything he listed is the same as i built my car.

Look up the youtube channel strokercoupe he has a couple videos with some really good info and covers alot in real good detail

There is a group on facebook called "Coyote Swapped Foxbodies." Lots of good information on there. The basic swap parts like headers and K-members are readily available. There is a company dedicated to making the incidental parts called "Power by the Hour." The basic combo seems to be to get an F150 engine, but put the GT exhaust cams on it, and a GT350 intake. Apparently you can get the GT exhaust cams over the counter at the dealer for like $100/each. Most people run the control pack from Ford because it is by far the most affordable, and has all the factory features. A lot of those guys use an electric power steering pump out of some Volvo to run the hydroboost and the powersteering.
