Progress Thread 43 years later

Here you go. They sprayed the whole thing with a dark sealer and were in the process of sanding it again to get any little imperfections cleaned up. I'll stop out again tomorrow and post again.

Here is the first of five layers of paint.
They'll wet sand this and keep going. I'm going to go cut some firewood and hunt for a few days because the weather is going to be nice.

If the pics are any indication, the orange peel is less than a modern factory paint job, and if they're going to sand that before applying more and doing more wet sanding and polishing, it's going to look damned nice.

You sure are patient.... it was dropped off around June 1. How long have you owned this car. How about a little background.
Well when you're as old as we are...you learn a bit of patience. I've owned it since 78. It was all tore apart when I bought it for $1,000.00. It ran for 120,000 miles after I put it back together and then I put it in storage. It's survived 5 different garages and 2 wives. I always said I wanted to restore it and increase the HP as it should have been made from the beginning.
I looked around at several restoration places and the place I picked wasn't the cheapest but they sure do fine work. Besides it was one of the engine builders recommendations. The restoration shop is called "The Hot Rod Factory" and they had an opening in their line due to the pandemic as (at the time) there was quite a few people having work done who wanted to hold off for a while to see what was going to happen financially before they continued. But, I got stuck behind a Camaro which put me back about a month.
The two guys working on my car have said that this is the fastest they ever put one out. Most cars are there at least a year. I talked to the owner last week and he told me that has changed quite a bit since and he has at least two years of backlog.
@Potomus Pete what forum do you usually hang around it? I've looked but either I'm doing something wrong or I just can't find it. I see a fox body for your avatar. I'd like to see what you're working on.

I am a huge fan of the Mustang ll, and very interested in yours. I know its going to be great and cant wait.
