Multi car conundrum

Wasn't there a turbo engined model around that Era?????
That was on the 215 Olds (62 or 63?). It required basically blinker fluid as an intercooler and did not last as long as the Corvair turbo that came out a few months earlier by most accounts.
My car has the high torque 330, and the 442 had the 400.

My parents bought a 65 Olds Vista Cruiser wagon off the showroom floor.... My dad was in the salesmans office checking the boxes on a new convertible ( I asked him what model before he passed and he could not remember) he was ordering.. Mom found the wagon on the showroom floor and canceled the vert.........
330, Powerglide 2 speed auto.... Gas guzzling supreme ONLY " not very impressive" engine, If I recall.....
They traded in our 60 Caddy vert that was having " transmission" problems......
On a side note I am sure the vert my dad was ordering was NOT a 442... I remember them making fun of our neighbors " pontiac" because they said pontiacs had bad " trade in" value....... The neighbors car was a GTO....

Do you really think thats a fair comparison?? I do not believe we are talking about a 442 or Hurst olds here......
One of my retired friends and I were talking the other day how people rent out storage units for years spending THOUSANDS of dollars on $300 of junk.....
I want to ad that I do NOT think the olds we are talking about is junk, just adding some food for thought....
I looked at some google pics and think it looks best in red. I normally don't like red but this one here looks good https://buy.motorious.com/vehicles/278354/1965-oldsmobile-cutlass . I just think it goes well with the accents. It's all personal opinion though and it's not my car so what I think doesn't really matter. I just think the chevelle looks better in more colors:

I got off topic sorry. Lots of respect to 7991LXnSHO hope I didn't offend anyone I sometimes have no filter. I'm generally just a lurker I've been procrastinating finishing fixing my car. I'm almost ready to start it up and hope that it doesn't leak any coolant. Then I'm going to run some anti-rust in it.

I’m in no position to bash Chevies. I’d prefer the 71 Cutlass and 68 Chevelle over the 71 Chevelle.

@limp the 2bbl and 4bbl 330 had quite different power ratings. The 4bbl is a smooth rocket. A cousin should still own a 455 71-73 that I got to ride in when it scraped the rear bumper on launch.

Anyway, I ditched the switch pitch convertor TH 300 at 111k miles for a short tailshaft TH 350. I should have gone to a turbo spec 2004r for overdrive. I’m not sure an extra first gear gained much besides wider parts availability.

I've got the same problem, but with junkier cars.

There's the 4Runner, a V8-powered, full-time 4WD beast that I've lifted, put all-terrain tires on, and made several overlanding modifications to. It's my daily. Getting rid of it wouldn't be a consideration, but I'm hitting my mid-life crisis and the allure of another pickup or sports car beckons. I have to keep reminding myself that it's paid off and never breaks.

There's the Mustang II, a rolling monument to my ADHD and craziness that is in a perpetual state of disrepair to the point of being a nuisance. It honestly needs to go to a better home.

Then I have a 2015 Buick Verano. It's a 14,000 mile cream puff that was traded in at work by an 89-year-old man. It's the girlfriend's car, but my name is on the paperwork with hers to get her employee pricing and finance rates, she paid/pays for it and she drives it. It's not going anywhere.

Next up is a 1999 Ranger, 2.5L, automatic, Sport package, it's a nice little pickup that's made a cameo in my II's build thread. Picked it up from a friend for next to nothing, replaced the whole front suspension, serviced the A/C and installed an Android Auto head unit and a backup camera for the girlfriend. She got tired of it being a gutless wonder after eight months, it's going on FB after I do the timing belt.

Last but not least is a 1996 Toyota Avalon. It has the dreaded 3.0, one of Toyota's rare misses. I put a salvage yard engine in it earlier this year and just need to finish re-assembly so it can go on Facebook to be sold. It was the girlfriend's mom's until she passed away, and it broke a connecting rod not long after that (hence the salvage engine).

My advice? (And it's worth what you pay for it.) Get down to 1 beater and 1 fun car for yourself. Pick what you're getting rid of and stick to it. As far as what beater to get, a flareside 10th-gen F150 4WD, or a 99-02 Silverado/Sierra 4wd are hard to kill (the flareside F150 has fiberglass bedsides that won't rust), anything Toyota/Lexus until it rusts out from under you, any Panther-platform Ford, or any Hyundai/Kia that doesn't have a turbo or that damned Theta engine.

What's that?
I ask because we have a Kia Reo 2018 she drives
2.0 turbo and 2.4 N/A found in 2011+ Sonata/Optima and 2014+ Santa Fe/Sorento. It's a BEAST power-wise, and sips fuel like a Geo Metro's 3-cylinder, but the rod bearings in them are junk, so they're known to lock up or throw a rod with ZERO warning. Hyundai recalled every engine for inspection with special equipment and replaced about 2/3 of them, and they're still replacing them (every Hyundai and Kia dealership tech I talk to says they have at least a 3-6 month backlog on engine replacements, and that the majority are Thetas).

That Rio has the 1.6 Gamma... badass little engine, 139horsepower (insert V8 Mustang II joke here), 40mpg highway all damned day, and only prone to burning a little oil now and again. If you get a misfire code, replace all four spark plugs and coils, don't wait on the others to fail, you'll kill the catalytic converter, it's real sensitive to good combustion. That's it. They're magnificent engines.

good to know thanks, oh it's got all of 19k on it right now.

uh oh, I did this once and it did not end well... I know I know, it won't happen to you...LOL
It's no big deal if it does, the payments are all of $200 and the thing has LoJack. If she left me and quit making payments I'd just go get it and take over.

Probably won't happen though, she and I have been through hell and back, including my hospitalization for MRSA earlier this month, me nursing her back to health when she slid down the icy stairs thanks to her stupid dog, and me being there through her grieving both of her parents' deaths. We're pretty damned solid.

Not my business, but if she’s a good one,

Just to clarify, I did not mean this personally..... The only way I got out of my problem was she rolled the car ( drunk) and totaled it..... OH yeah, coming home from my " pals " house at 4am....LOL
