So I have a low mileage 95GT five speed that i purchased new but have been parked for 20 years or so with very little use. Car has apprx 50,000Km on the clock and is near mint condition and is bone stock except for a catback exhaust and 3.73 gears. I recently got the urge to get back into driving this car and the wonderful world of "old school 5.0". With that decision I have purchased the complete Trick Flow Street heat upper engine kit complete with TFS stage one cam. I've been out of this world for a very long time raising the family and such so Im pretty much starting off fresh again learning about this 27 year old car. I once knew this stuff inside and out in terms of parts need to go fast, bought every magazine i could find to learn and grow this car. Well along came kids, house and all that goes with that and here i am with my 27 year old GT just as i left her parked about 20 years ago in bay 2 of my garage.

So onto some questions to get started:

1. With this TFS engine kit im assuming I will need larger injectors, fuel pump, MAF meter, TB etc. Would anyone here know what combination would provide me the most reliable and drivable experience while netting good power from the TFS kit.

2. With the combination advised from #1, is there a need for a tuning device such as Tweecer or am i better off just getting it tuned at a shop with a dyno. I will say Dyno tuning is likely gonna be difficult to find close to me so "self" tuning appeals to me more....assuming the tuners are affordable and the info is available and not impossible for a 50 year old guy to learn the process. I am by trade a instrumentation and controls tech with lots of experience around oil and gas controls and PLC's so not scared of programming and PC's.

3. If self tuning is advised, what is the best product available and used for the EEC-IV in my 95GT.

I guess we will start with that and thanks in advance any help provided. Pic attached of my car before it was lowered recently.

I installed the Anderson ultimate 6200 rpm top end kit that sounds similar to yours. It uses trick flow twisted wedge heads and Anderson B31 cam. Also Holley systemax intakes. Came with 24# injectors, 75 mm throttle body, 80 mm mas air tuned for 24# injectors. Bought the Bama tunes to plug into original pcm. It has 3 custom tunes for your engine combo. This setup flat woke the little 5.0 up.

So did you ever have it dyno tuned? From some reading ive done lately, some claim the 24# injectors will be near the upper limit of being able to supply enough fuel with this kit. I guess as long as the MAF meter is calibrated correctly and dont peg, the EEC (PCM) will take care of timing to protect the engine from a lean condition......but im not 100% sure if that generation EEC even has to ability to detune to protect. This is the stuff im trying to lean before buying the injectors and MAF meter. Hoping some of the experts from years ago still visit this section to provide advice.

Also, did you have to provide any info to Bama for the tunes, or are they just generic tunes that you buy and hope they work for your setup?

Im really excited to get this car tweeked to at least run with todays Honda Civics lol. Crazy how times have changed.

Bama will need a lot of info from you. They will email you a list to fill out. If they think something doesn't sound right they will get in touch to verify correct info. The 24# injectors will work great and with the stock fuel pump.

Perfect, i will reach out to them and see what they say/suggest.

Thanks

If you’re going to be doing all your own tuning I would highly recommend looking into some of the standalone ecus available. You’ll be far better off, and they are much easier to get going with many more options down the road. Plus you can throw your maf in the trash and never worry about it, and you can run whatever intake charge pipe you want.

I really like the pimpxs, and the Holley is also a great system.

If buying injectors, just buy deka 80s from a company like power adder solutions, or the trickflow or ford racing ones from summit. They’ll be perfect for you.

Took a look at this unit today, while its very nice i think it will be beyond my scope for this car. As mentioned i just want to install the TFS upper kit and at the end of the day be able to drive this car without to much grief. I have no intention to take to the track or play with numbers every day. Like I said to my buddy, just want a reliable GT that dont get humiliated from light to light by a stock Honda Civic lol.

So Bama got back to me but im a little confused and doubtful on their recommendation on injectors and MAF. They state that i can keep everything stock for my setup. That completely conflicts with pretty much everything ive read on here over the last few weeks. In fact some say 24# injectors are borderline to small with this kit and that the stock MAF will peg easily thus risk running the engine lean.

Now granted in some cases im reading 15 year old treads here to get re-educated on this stuff but figured not much have changed......am i missing something here with these new tunes. How is it that 20 years ago a 19# injector was no good for this type of mod but now its fine lol. Confused.

24lb injectors will certainly be too small, peak power and reliability is not found at 14.7:1, you need the extra fuel to cool combustion temps in places to run a decent timing curve.

You're spending big money on the motor, don't cheap out on the fueling and tuning - trying to use something like the stock air flow meter is just asking for trouble too.

Would highly recommend doing a standalone, using the stock ECU with mail order tunes is very dated tech at this point. A cheap setup for our cars that is just going to be a driver and not a racecar is a Microsquirt PNP subtract the cost of a upgraded MAF too as you will no longer need it.

I have a MegasquirtPNP2 for the 95/95 Mustang. Plugs straight into the factory harness. I'm not going to use it so I'll make a deal on that, the wideband O2 sensor and even a brand new Windows laptop that I bought specifically for tuning.

I did forget to mention that the laptop has the software licenses need to tune your car.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks, but I like the ms3 based plug and play options. Just a lot easier to tune on the fly with.
