Progress Thread 85GT4V’s “New” 1985 Mustang GT

Indeed!!! ; )

I was very intrigued by the ASC McLaren Capri ! I talked to the owner, who knew all the high-level stuff about the McLaren collaboration but didn’t seem to grasp how “special” the car was. He’d owned the car for a couple of years and seemed to be enthusiastic about it, but…

It was in rough shape and really could have been brought back to its best life with just a little work (and a little bit of “investment”).

He bought (stole) the car a couple years ago for $5,500 and didn’t seem to think it was worthy of bringing back to life. I’m not a convertible guy but I told him I’d give him his $5,500 investment and a modest profit if he was willing to part with it.

‘85 with a 4V carburetor and auto trans.
At the prices these days…… if he’s just looking to get his money back, that’s a huge score!

Seems to me that this is more of a cable binding issue than a VSS issue. I have a digital VSS, from an '03 Cobra, in Black Jack, that is connected to a digital signal converter and then to an Abbot Cable-X box that converts it to an analog cable. I still get cable bounce. It's because the Abbott's Cable is too long for where I mounted the box, behind the radio. So, I had to induce a couple of bends that are sharper than I would prefer.

I don’t see really any bends in mine at all. And it had no problems until I swapped the vss. That’s what has me stumped. Could it be a faulty vss causing the tach to go nuts ? It’s jumpy at all speeds. It works correctly but you can see in vid below it doesn’t stay still lol.

Had a chance to turn a work trip into a recon of a couple of famous western NC roads today and tomorrow.

This mighty ‘25 Mustang GT rental car preformed surprisingly well on the Tail of the Dragon today and, I’m anticipating great things on the Cherohala Skyway tomorrow.

I did learn today though that TotD is not a road for the 85GT4V! Perhaps it’ll be suited for Cherohala, I’ll know tomorrow!

Ford has a Performance Calibration for that car that claims 350 HP and 400 Ft/lbs TQ (up from 315 hp) and a 3-Year warranty if the stealership installs. :poke:

350/400 is pretty good flavors. O_o

The only downside (other than the $850ish) bux is that it get married to the car it's installed on. Might be worth looking into at the very least.
