    Rocker Arm Asembly Assistance

OK, that part is clear as glass and I totally think I can do it. Now how do I make "that cylinder on TDC of the firing stroke" In fact what is TDC?

    Rocker Arm Asembly Assistance

sorry, 65 coupe w/ 289 looks like mine are stud mount. Does this mean I can just tighten the heck out of them? I notice most of them are lose enough to wiggle just a little bit and I can roll the rod between my thumb and fore finger? Shouls they do that" Should I tighten them all down?

    Rocker Arm Asembly Assistance

When bolting the rocker arm to the fulcrum, is there a specification somewhere that tells me how tight to make this bolt? I can't find it in my shop manual. I pulled the rocker arm off the #1 cylinder (the exhaust side) and I am re attaching it. Initially, I just sort of eyed it but when I...

Can I start the engine w/ a cracked valve cover?

I over torqued a bold on the valve cover, and cracked it. The crack is about 3 inches long. What will happen if I start the motor? I am not sure if there is a science behind the valve covers, and there is pressure in there or if they are simply to prevent oil from being splattered all over...

    engine noise

OK, I will change the gaskets. I didn't fire it up after tightening the bolts as I have not re attached the valve cover. Dumb question. When you say manifold are you referring to the same thing I am calling the header? I assume we are all talking about replacing the gasket between the...

    engine noise

I had a guy listen to it. He described it as a knock (sounds like a tap to me) It is once per revolution.

    engine noise

It has never died on me. It feels like it is going to die as if flooded w/ gas but then I let off the gas and it runs normal. It drives fine but feels a little weak. I think that may be bad tuning but the tapping noise perplexes me. I removed the valve cover and everything looks very solid...

    engine noise

Is it possible that there is no problem at all w/ the lifter / rocker and that I am hearing a noise related to another cause? If the spark plug was out on one of the cylinders, would it make a tapping sound?

    engine noise

May be a dumb question. Can U run the engine with the valve cover off? If so, should I be able to see something wrong while it is running? Will the faulty lifter be acting different than the others?

    engine noise

It is definately worse when the car starts up. And by die, I mean the car, it starts to sputter and if I don't let off the gas, the car will stop running. The noise does not go away. It continues while the engine is running and never fades away. If it is a lifter, what do I do? Do I just...

    engine noise

FYI: 289 Automatic, no AC My engine is making a tapping noise. sounds similar to when I once had a couple loose header bolts. I have narrowed it doen to the passenger side, and seems to be coming from within the valve cover. If I gun it, it starts to die. I had a guy listen to it and he...

Rear drum brakes don't seem to be working. What did I do wrong?

Think I figured out the soft pedal issue. Air in the line. I never opened the drain plug so I didn't bleed them. I just went out and bled the brake system, and now I am stopping like before. I will try the back up and brake to adjust. and adjust that switch to get the e brake back...

Rear drum brakes don't seem to be working. What did I do wrong?

I took my drums up to have em machined, and I got new shoes. Reassembled everything as before. I took photos so I could reassemble every piece as it was. 1st thing I noticed is I couldn't get the drum on over the new shoes. I turned the adjuster screw all the way so the shoes would get...

    security for your daily driver

I think your previous owner previously owned my mustang as well. I have a ratchet shifter, and the neutral safety switch is wrapped around the export brace. It annoys me and I plan to get it all corrected but I must admit many times, I have gone in and manually stuck it in gear so it wouldn't start.

Anyone ever paint their master cylinder

Just got a refurbished one, and Was thinking about painting it red w/ a chrome cap to sort of match the rest f the car rather than leaving it the grey color it currently is. Is that totally dumb?

I completed my rewire. EZ Wiring Harness review

Yes it is GM. If you are picky this is not the way to go. The whole harness id specific to GM cars. I suspect if you put it in a GM, you could use all the plugs that come attached to the harness. With a ford, you have to keep the original plugs and splice the wires. So the ignition, wiper...

I completed my rewire. EZ Wiring Harness review

Yup. I actually replacet the voltage regulater a few months ago. I did however relocate it. Rather than having it on the drivers side, I mounted it down low on the passenger side so it is only about 4 inches away from the alternator. This was the last thing I wired and migrating it there made it...

I completed my rewire. EZ Wiring Harness review

I don't really have any diagrams, I just plugged the wires where they said they went and when confused, I did the following: 1. Asked this forum for help 2. Called Tech Support for the harness (They were great) 3. Trial and error w/ Multi meter This in combination w/ the diagrams that...

If I had to do it again, I would go w/ the mini fuse box. THe reqular one is the size of a toaster. Seriously, the pictures on their site don't do it justice. The thing is huge. You will likely not be able to get it up under the dash. Mine is mounted just below the dash on the left kick panel...
