Help me tune my edelbrock carb (I lack the vocabulary)

I downloaded the manuel, and have read a lot online, and I have learned that i seriously lack the vocabulary to do a lot of this. I am smart enough to look at most things and rebuild/fix etc, but the carb is not intuitive. I am a software engineer and I have the same problem w/ my wotrk. I can...

Rocker Arm Adjustments (walk me through this like I am a child)

wasn't sure of my issues (engine tapping) replaced header gasket. Went through 20 other issues. It is rocker arms. I know because I ran the engine w/ the valve cover off (Any thoughts on getting oil out of the driveway) and tightened the rocker arms until the tapping stopped. I did this totally...

Anyone ever paint their master cylinder

I bought some auto paint from the sherwin williams auto store (matched to the car's paint). I actually just used a model hobby type of airbrush and sprayed it on. Then did the same w/ a couple coats of clear.

    Turns over but won't start

OK, it sounds like I have all the info I need to correct the 180 degree out error. The other thing mentioned was the possibility of no power to the coil. How can I verify this? I assume I can determine this w/ my multi meter?

    Turns over but won't start

So for every rotation of the engine, the distributor rotor goes around twice? If I am 180 degrees off, I can crank the engine by hand 1 revolution, and it should fire? Then I just need to adjust timing?

    Turns over but won't start

It appears to only fit one way as there is a notch in the cap that aligns w/ a screw. The vacuum is directly in front as before. How could it be off?

    Turns over but won't start

I have been cleaning up my engine bay. I shortened all the hoses, relocated the starter coil, re routed some wires, shortened/ rerouted that metal fuel line to the carb replaced the PVC valve and fuel filter and the one thing that was really dumb in hindsite is I pulled the distributer...

    Thank You Krash Kendall

Krash is to StangNet what tom is to Myspace. I think if I dig through all of my posts, he is each one somewhere with the correct answer every time. Usually one of the first to respons as well. I have gotten more good advice from you that I do from most people in a day. Just wanted to say...

So with enough force, it will just unscrew?

Help me identify this part of the engine

I am cleaning up my engine bay and I have this hose connected to this piece (reference circled picture below). Mine points forward and I want to shorten the hose and rotate this piece so it points backwards. It appears to be threaded near the bottom, but I can't turn it and I dont want to force...

Listen to my engine (Audio files here)

I tightened the rocker arm down on the #1 cylinder and the car actually runs now. before, it was very un happy. Listen to the two audio files below and let me know if you hear anything weird. The timing looks spot on, The idle seems really fast and I hear knocks every cycle both behind the car...

Can I start the engine w/ a cracked valve cover?

passenger side. Similar to these except they say 289 on them as well: Several people have told me I should just upgrade to the chrome ones. They sell the Edelbrock chrome ones really cheap at Pep Boys, but honestly, I think that chrome valve covers look sort of cheap.

Can I start the engine w/ a cracked valve cover?

lesson learned. I really like my valve covers and hate to have to buy em over again. I thought they were really strong and was tightening and heard "CRACK" I yelled "F___" loud enough to elicit concern from the neighbors. :bang:

    Here's a fun one

In all my magazones, I see the engine, and the spark plug wires are run uniformally out of the dist. to the plugs; all parallel to one another. Mine criss cross in the normal ford 289 firing order. What is the difference? Do they have a cam that changes the firing order allowing the 4...

    Rocker Arm Asembly Assistance

THERE WE GO! Thank s for that link. I was thinking how the hell am I going to crank the engine and stop it fast enough to land on the 1 cylinder. "Honey, start the car. I am going to stick my finger in this spark plug hole. When I scream in agony, turn it off" :D I am actually...
