Turns over but won't start

I have been cleaning up my engine bay.
I shortened all the hoses,
relocated the starter coil,
re routed some wires,
shortened/ rerouted that metal fuel line to the carb
replaced the PVC valve and fuel filter
and the one thing that was really dumb in hindsite is I pulled the distributer to get some wires out from around it and I didn't make a note of where it was pointed (stupid stupid stupid)

I cranked the engine by hand so the timimg mark on the fly wheel lined up and installed the distributer to where it is pointing toward cyilinder 1 as best I could.

When I start it, it turns over but won't light up. When I pull the accellerator wire, I see fuel going into the carb. Starter coil was nice and strong 2 days ago.

What should I check? Is it possible I have the dist. so far off that it it won't fire?

So for every rotation of the engine, the distributor rotor goes around twice?

If I am 180 degrees off, I can crank the engine by hand 1 revolution, and it should fire? Then I just need to adjust timing?

read my other post in the other thread about finding top dead center and lining up the dist. The dist goes round 1 time when the motor goes 2. The motors have 4 cycles and the piston peaks at top dead center twice in a cycle. If you are 180* off, the cyl is firing when there is no fuel in the cylinder...you are firing on the exhaust stroke

see if this works:
guess not...check this link..it shows the 4 cycles and how everything works together. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine1.htm

OK, it sounds like I have all the info I need to correct the 180 degree out error.

The other thing mentioned was the possibility of no power to the coil. How can I verify this? I assume I can determine this w/ my multi meter?

yup... multimeter. There are 2 wires running to the coil... ones a + and ones a -. (then theres teh spark plug wire) but just hook up the multimeter to the 2 wires and see if it gives you voltage. I forget, but it may be a switched hot, so turn the key to the run position
