Progress Thread “Rising from Ashes 2” 95 Saleen S-351 build

The first task was to yank this molded interior and sell some parts that won’t be good enough for this build. The car came from Saleen as a 5 speed tremec 3550 and not this junk automatic that someone has crammed in the car. So out all this junk goes. I was actually able to sell this whole setup to recoup some cash.

Same here. Big Saleen fan. I own a model
From every body style.
This car was owned by a true enthusiast to start with but when a shop that I won’t name blew the car up, it started a downhill slide from there until I got it when it had reached rock bottom. But it’s a 2 owner car and had 52,xxx original miles and had never been wrecked or repainted.

Is the paint salvageable?
That's my one automotive fear, paint work (it's not an unfounded thought, I got a price to paint my car the same color for 10g's).
Didn't see the brakes on the sticker (but expanded it was a little blurry), that would be one of the hardest parts to source, i put them back on my xp8 and everyone wants a premium for the alcon Type B's.

Paint work is my speciality. It’s getting stripped to the metal and completely redone like my other car.
The alcons are in decent shape. They will get a strip, Powdercoat and rebuild. As for the rotors I make reproduction ones in house and will be using those with the refinished Saleen Alcon calipers

Next up on the project was addressing the seats. This S-351 was optioned with Leather Saleen Recaro seats and a specific head rest.
The rear seat was still intacted with the Saleen recaro design. The fronts however are long gone so that’s what I need to find and then redo the correct upholstery. Someone had removed the originals and replaced them with basic GT leather seats so I yanked these, cleaned them up and redyed them and sold for $250 bucks to put back into the project

Not sure I understand the question or maybe not the situation?

The trailer fender looks awefully high in comparison to the door. Are you able to open the door on the car to get out? Does the left hand fender swing out or something? I undercut my frame rails by 2" in able to get the axles inside the leaf springs. I haven't loaded the car on my trailer yet, but I am not sure the doors will clear the tires much less a swing out fender.

Oh, gotcha. I made both fenders removable. So you can just pop the driver or pass fender off and open either door fully. Did a full door in my enclosed trailer so you can open the driver door fully as well.

Gotcha. I think I am going to have to do something similar. I don't suppose you used a kit for that or anything. I'm also looking at doing a winch. I've seen them really cheap on ebay.

No, no kit. Just made it up for what I needed. Wasn’t hard tho. I’ve used the cheap eBay winches too. Some lasted a year, some 3-4

Restoring and saving all the good interior pieces was the next step followed by getting started on the engine bay. Like all my cars. A lot of time will be spent here

Next step was to put the automatic in the past by getting the pedals back in it and sourcing the correct Saleen Pedal covers that could have been ordered for this car.
