00-02 GT Vs 88 5.0 ????

My friend has a 01 i think, may be a 02. And i have a 88 5.0. Both are stock and auto'z . Who would win ?

Good question could be close but I would have to put my money on your buddy no offense.. You will probably take him a little at the beging cuz the 5.0's have more torque but the higher hp will help him beat ya cuz his will rev higer then yours.. Plus auto's suck but that 4r70w in the 01 or 02 is good specially when manually shifted.. I've chirped gears easily with new mustangs at work that were auto's

Not really a fair race. 260 horsepower to 225. seeing that his car prolly runs in the 14.3 range and you in the 15.3 range. (mabye worse)

Ok, he is outmatched by horsepower and technology with a better automatic. Im not sure but I think he'd see better than a 15 in his 88' wouldnt he? Speed densitys are the fastest stockers. I may be biased but the last thing I would do is go MAF because of that fact. I'd wait until it was needed to keep up with upgrades

I went 14.8 @ 93MPH bone stock in my '88 AOD car.

The '01 would prob run 14.1-14.3 stock.

Driver's could come into play though. A good start can make up the half second difference easily.

Well i get a used 3:73 rear end from drum to drum from Stangparts.Com next week. Will that help any?

yes it will, but with an AOD i would go with 4.10's, but 3.73's are a good start, and just to make sure you have removed the air silencer, right?

My 90 vert bone stock except for 4.10's went a 15.8 with no tire spin at all.

My 89 LX vert went 14.7's with 3.55's and flowmasters. I ran five times that nite and ran 14.7x each time! Talk about consistent!!!!

But still have to put my money on the Newer car.

im not keepin the AOD, im swappin a t-5 or maybe if i have the money a C-6 in the summer. I didnt remove it but i checked and didnt see one, maybe the guy before me did that.

the 01 is definitely faster...

but, depending on conditions, you could still win..
for example.. if his gas tank is full, and yours is near empty, that would increase your wieght advantage. Also, driver weight, condition of tires, driver skill, reaction time, how good your particular car is running, etc.. there's a lot that goes into play..
