00 GT vs. LS1?

OK, here is the deal. I buddy of mine has a 98 TA LS1 with full exhaust (LT headers, catted y-pipe, and SLP cat-back) and airlid. It is a pretty mean car, but I have a challenge with him and I know to know if I'm going to be able to hold up. I told him I would take him in my 00 GT after next spring with the following add-ons. Saleen Supercharger 9psi, 3.73, full SLP exhaust (longtubes, X-pipe catted, and cat-back) and cold-air intake, possibly with a diablosport tune and tri-ax shifter. Will I be able to hold up on my end with the TA. We just dyno'd his car before the headers and y-pipe at 324hp at the rear wheel.

isn't it sad that even with a blower there is doubt whether our 2v can beat an NA LS1 with bolt ons

He will probably be around 340+ plus to the wheels. I dont see you having a shot in beating him unless you are pushing around 360+ to the wheels.

Why a Saleen supercharger, why not a KB twin screw.

I ran against a 2001 LS1 Camaro, he had an exhaust system don't know which one cuz i'm not familiar w/GM, and right before the race he got off his car opened his hood and did some crap to it. I told my cousin to get off my car and kick my tires so we could look like we were pros My car only had a CAI and flows. I had him from 1st to 2nd and also in 3rd. As soon as I shifted into fourth he caught up and beat me by about 1/2 a car. After that we went from a roll but he got me good!!!! Make sure you start from a stand still or else.

Most LS1 6 speeds with with a decent driver can run anywhere in the 13.0-13.8 range at the track. As for the autos the norm is 13.5-13.9 depending on mods to the transmission. I have seen way worse with both.

I have a 00 SS and with SLP Suspension, SLP/BW Lid and filter, SLP Cat-Back and SLP Y-Pipe I have broken into the 12.8's but it isn't easy to do there were alot of low 13's too.

My GT is easier to pilot and I can usually run 13.6-13.8 which makes most LS1's on the street look bad.

With your buddies mods he could most likely meet or slightly beat my SS depending if his weighs more or not. LS1's in near stock form are fast but not touched by God like many think.

Well its going to be a little while but I"ll let you guys now the outcome, I'm going with the saleen supercharger for the mere fact that it is a little lower priced and comes with the injectors and everything, the KB is nice, but startinf to really sky rocket in my price range once I get all the parts I need. Plus the Saleen comes with the intercooler. If I am wrong in any of this please let me know

let me tell you, i've owned 3 camaro's , all ss's an 00,01,02..the 00 was a bone stock automatic, on f1's, it ran a 13.40 all day long. the 01 had slp lt's,frame conn, 373's,cai,3600 stall and ran 12.30's, the 02 i had was stock except for a loudmouth exhaust and it ran 12.90's..all were automatics. these cars are rockets.. i traded in the 01 for my 02 z06 and havent looked back. i love mustangs too...guess i love all cars. but to get a mustang to run with an ls1..ya gotta spend some serious bucks...

you need to check here and get a novi2000 or vortech

www.modularpowerhouse.com my vortech put down 370 rwhp and 372 rwtq ....enough to smoke a ls1 and not worry if its gonna be close , that saleen blower with 9 lbs pulley will be spinning at its max and generating alot of heat in the process and still will be lucky to put down 350 rwhp without a water/methanol kit to keep it cooler .....

angrmgt, you are right they are fast cars, however, when I was looking to buy a car I almost bought an 02 SS for $25 grand w/23k miles. I found my current 03GT for $19 grand w/4k mi. and it was fully loaded. At my local track, the SS cars run 13.4-13.6, my best has been 14.1. To me it does not make sense to pay an extra $5-$6 grand more for a car that is a little faster than mine. Don't get me wrong, SSs are nice looking cars but when there are guys at the track spending a little less than $2k on their mustangs and still run and sometimes beat the SSs, that's where it really pays off and it is still not the $5 extra grand to pay for an SS.

Where exactly do you live.
I have raced some LS1s, I just raced one WS6 6M and beat him from a stop and my clutch was slipping (was hot already, some problems I have fixed already) w/o spraying. And I raced an automatic that supposly hit 12.4, from a roll spraying I have seen some LS1 corvettes hit 14.0-14.8, because they don't know how to raced their cars. If you are a good driver you should be able to pull 1st, 2nd, and 3rd the whole 1/4, but if you go into 4th your ass is going to be handed to you. Remember why raced from a roll? If you can get him from the dig.

I have a 99 gt with a offroad x-pipe and Flowmaster catback - my friend has a 2000 z28 (LS1) both are sticks. At the track he runs a 13.4 bone stock - compaired to my 14.0. I love Mustangs but those cars are bad right off the showroom floor; so anything less than a blower or nitrous forget about it!

I dunno. LT1's are nothing. LS1;s are somethign to watch out for. I have rolled up on a few one handed it to me on a platter (It was blown) one was neck and neck with me. Then one i just left like there was no tomorrow. Its not the car that matters that much it is mostly the driver.

Isn't it sad that if an LS1 was supercharged then the stangs wouldn't even have a chance? Mustangs might be cheaper, but in the end you're spending the money trying to make them just as fast as the LS1's.

Wow!! Your Cobra must scoot if LT1 are nothing. I got my *ss handed to me by my sister-in-laws 95 auto. My brother was driving it the 1st time and ran 13.884@103.13mph. Then 3 weeks ago my sister-in law was driving and ran a best of 13.91@102.99 and a worst of 13.98@101.34mph. She just rolls up to the lights and stomps it. It's all stock, even original tires. Makes me sad

I would really like to see this magic LT1 run constant 13.9's even LT1 owners will tell you your leaving out the 100 mid 14's second passes.

Why is this LS1 subject still being debated?

Stock vs Stock = LS1

If you have a 99+ GT that can run decent vs LS1 or a Mach1 it's a drivers race. Get your GT to run mid 13's and it's easy to beat LS1's and Mach1's on the street. Most numbers that people run in either car are there best E.T.'s. The usual LS1 and Mach1 will run mid 13's.

The problem with the LS1's is that they make good power out of the hole, but really start to pull up top as where the 4.6 makes mediocre power down low, with good mid range, but then start to fall on their face. The F-bodies aren't as finiky to launch as the Stang and if you don't get a comfortable lead on one in the first couple hundred feet (with even a full bolt on Stang), it ain't gonna be pretty after that.

You say you'd like to see this LT1? Frankly, if I never see this stupid car again, I'll be really really happy. It's been a thorn in my side for friggen years. My G/F has a 99 Trans Am that I'd like to try against it but she won't let me.She won't even let me try my G-tech Comp. on it. Seat of the pants between the TA and that stupid Z-28, I really can't tell a difference. But I'm thinking if I can sneak into my brother's garage one night,and if I'm really quiet,remove a sparkplug out of the Z-28 and pound the electrode flat, all my problems with it should be cured.
