As the title states, will an 01 cobra engine and tranny "easily" fit in my 98 gt? I know the wiring and computer will be different, but what about the motor mounts? I would probably be doing the swap myself and with friends. Is this a pretty reasonable project for the average mechanic? Thanks.

Yeah it is a 01 with a 3650. Thanks for the help though. I mean there has to be someone on this site that can just straight up tell me if its hard? I know somebody has had to do this swap. Personally i think it shouldn't be that hard. Thanks again guys.

mechanically it will not be hard. but how well are you at electrically. its usually this area where pple are baffled. be sure to get both wiring diagrams for both cars. http://www.helminc.com
the electronic manuals are EVTM's. if you think youll wing it with a chilton or haynes wiring manual- your dreaming.

or if your work at ford and have access to every car/truck manual via online from about 94-up at http://fmcdealer.com

I'd just buy a cobra personally., after you add up all "preventitive upgrades", but I know it is damm hard want to get rid of a silver 98....But yes it will fit

it will fit. your computer will work fine. add adjustable regulator for global tuning. get custom tune. easy as pie.

as a matter of fact your computer plugs i perfectly.(add a little extension here or there).upgrade MAF to larger.

or use your maf and injectors with higher PSI. whatever.

good thing you have return fuel. it makes this crap easier.

What do you mean by "preventive upgrades"? It's only a 01 cobra engine, im guessing it makes about 70hp then my current engine. And yes it is hard to get rid of a silver stang.

Thanks billfisher, it's nice to hear some encouraging words from someone who has done it. Did you run into any problems?

a few tuning problems, but just because initially i was trying to get some milage out of it. i gave up and put the pressure where it likes it. i may change to 24lb, as it may drive better when cold. but it works fine. i had the pressure so high at first it blew BLUE flames out of the end of the exhaust. so even with 19lb stockers you will be able to push enough through it. you have to have adjustable regulator. mine is rebuildable billet. works great. after racing season opens i'm going to change them to see how it runs. i am running 50psi right now. a little high maybe, but so what. use your rails.
