Thanks for looking. Here's the situation. A dum-dum and my Dad decided to jump his 01 Saleen with a 200AMP starter box on a completely depleted battery against my strenuous objection (been sitting unstarted for over a year). When the key was turned, there was a small amount of smoke from the dash. They then quit, and allowed me to trickle the batt unhooked for a day.

The car did get started but has a persistent Keep Alive Memory voltage low code. It started and ran fine through two tanks of gas to let the computer complete its calibration. That error code persists though doesn't seem to effect drive-ability at all. We had a local mech put his tech computer on it to see if there was any other info. It/he said PATS system was malfunctioning. I believe we have this functionality programmed out with the SCT tuner but perhaps it could still cause errors in the hardware. My understanding is PATS is integral to the cluster, and the cluster needs replaced to start throwing parts somewhere. Problem is, a 200MPH Saleen cluster is not easy to get, and the ones that can be found are expensive takeouts of unknown function.

I am very familiar with GM clusters, but not at all on the Saleen/Fords. Is it possible to buy a replacement GT (very common) cluster to have a functioning PATS (which may or may not even be the end issue with the code) and have the stepper motors programmed to reflect the Saleen gauge face (200MPH speedo and tach range)?

If that is possible, can anyone point to some vendors/sponsors/third-party people that I could reach out to on this?

Thank you in advance for any information.

Just wondering. Have you confirmed the PCM and cluster keep alive fuse F2.21?

OBTW, EXPECT driveability issues if the PCM can't learn and remember fuel trim values. Have you check all of the fuses just to be sure?

I have been told that it's possible to swap the cluster daughter boards to retain PATS. Of course that assumes the daughter board is good. I haven't done it myself (only read in the forums). It's my understanding that the board is visible when the cluster is taken apart.

Check the following thread regarding Cluster printed circuit (PC) foil trace repair. This might make it possible to repair the cluster that you have.

Finally I'm aware that a company United Radio will take in and "bench repair" clusters. Back in the day I have used them to repair a 1996 Mustang cluster.

I can't offer much help beyond the information provided.

Here's some information on how it may be possible for you to re-program PATS yourself in a replacement cluster.

WM, thank you for the reply. I know that several fuses were replaced, I will check which ones this weekend. In my reading of the KAM code, I saw that it should effect fuel trim, I didn't seat-of-pants notice any change in fueling and wondered if with the SCT program rather than the PCM having the ability to "relearn" on a regular basis, it had been permanently set the with the tuner? Meaning perhaps the KAM didn't necessarily effect me.

Forgot to mention earlier: with the tune in the PCM, ODO functioned correctly, with the tune off the PCM, it displayed "00000" indicating PATS failure. Due to this, I suspect PATS functionality had been removed with the custom tune, it is an odd thing.

I will reach out to UnitedRadio, looks like they can maybe help with some of my other tinkering projects as well (old-school home audio).
