02 GT making strange noise after I added refrigerant

Hey everyone! I recently added refrigerant to my AC, and after doing so, I have noticed that when it idles, a strange grinding sound seems to be coming from the engine. I have done some research which leads me to believe it might be a problem with my compressor clutch or serpentine belt. The noise occurs when the AC is off and usually happens when the car is idling; when I turn on the AC, the noise quiets down and I can hear the compressor kicking on and off. I popped the hood when I heard it last and noticed that the compressor is kicking intermittantly about every 5-10 seconds. Not sure if this is normal, but I'm sure the sound its making is not. Please let me know if you need any additional information; also please forgive my ignorance when it comes to dealing with cars. I don't know a great deal about them but I am trying to learn as much as possible since I like my car and I hate to hear it sound broken. Thanks in advance for your help!!

mine kicks on an off every 5 secs or so aswell, even with just the heat on it kicks on an off an kinda makes the car rev up alittle it seems

The heat will not cause the AC clutch to engage. However, the defrosting setting will kick it on to pull the moisture out of the interior of your car.

if u just toped off the system with out taking any refrigerant out u may have overfilled the system which may have damaged the compressor
