I recently installed a new 02 sensor on the passenger side,
Yet the check engine light is still on after a week,
the guy at the auto part store said it will take some time for the system to recognize it,
Is that true?

I know on mine I had to have my mechanic turn the light off with his scan tool. If you haven't done it, you should be able to disconnect the positive battery terminal for a few seconds and it'll reset the codes.
