03/04 Cobra engine swap into 1998.

Hi , i have a 1998 mustang gt , and looking into motors for it as the stock motor is garbage. the 03/04 Cobra engine came into mind. there are some for 8500 W/ a t56 along with it. does anyone know what i would need to fully do the swap ? thank you !

Personally, I wouldn't do an 03/04 swap if I didn't have a full donor car. @ $8500 for just the motor and tranny from what you said, you will have lots of other items you will need to get it running (computer, tuning, harnesses, fuel system, ect) that will drive the cost closer to 13K+ when finished. If you could find the motor and tranny for less than $5k, then it might be worthwhile, otherwise I'd look at doing a coyote swap or put that money into building a badass 2V.

So how much do you think a coyote swap would cost in itself ? and for the badass 2v as in forging the motor and going a turbo ? thank you for the response !

General concencious is you can do a low mileage coyote swap between 13-15K, all depending on what motor and trans you choose as well as how you source the remaining items (control pack vs tuned stock ecu and harness, accessories, ect). Some have done it for less as they are able to source the motor/trans for less and nickel and dime every other item needed. These guys have claimed to be able to do this for around 8-9K. The coyote is going to give you the most capable engine platform out of the these three options. Once you start modding a coyote, the price starts to go up quickly (ask me how I know that).

I've never personally built a 2V so I can't tell you 100% what it costs, but most of the budget forged builds I've seen that are in the 500+rwhp range have cost around 12K. Still expensive but more power then a stock cobra and stock coyote with more power possible. Start modding the coyote (or the cobra) and both platforms will outperform the 2V quickly.

Another option to think about would be a 3V swap. Very capable motors, same achillies heal as the 2v (rods and crank), and cheap. Easy to make 500+rwhp with boost and an upgraded bottom end. You can usually find a wrecked donor car for this swap fairly easily.

This is all very vague information and something just to get your wheels turning. Before you go any further, I forgot to ask the golden question. What are your eventual plans for the car (purpose and power wise)? This will help dictate the best route to take as all these options have their positives and negatives, it really depends on what you plan to do with the car that will narrow down your choices.
