Hello all, I've been having some issues with my 2003 GT. Every once and a while (rarely, days apart when i notice) the rpm will go down under 600rpm upon braking and very rarely while idling. It has died on me before while driving about a month ago, but i was having electrical issues at the time and all was well for a little before last light. I was driving home and when i went to stop from a 40 roll (auto tranny) under deceleration the rpm dropped as usual but it kept dropping all the way to about 200rpm and then it went back to normal. I saw this immediately and tried to replicate it on a straight road right beside my house as i was almost home, and it did it again. I drove maybe a half mile and got to my house and parked it. I didn't turn it off yet and heard a odd sound coming from my motor. It wasn't mechanical sounding it was more of a deep bass note. I then gave it a quick blip of the throttle (1500 rpm max) and the rpms went up and then down normal speed but it didn't stop at idle and kept going to 0 and the car died. I then tried to crank again, it instantly fired up and then died. I knew something was definitely up then so i checked my gauges and my oil one is far far to the left. it doesn't even get in the range as its suppose to. I cycled the ignition to off and back on and all the other gauges are normal but the oil one still barely moves and is not even to the minimum bar. I know its a dummy gauge but that still cant be good. I had to work at 8am the next morning so i went in and haven't looked at it since. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

First off, the part about the oil pressure at the end of your post. If I'm reading it right it looked like the car was key on engine off when you checked the gauge, Its not going to read any oil pressure when not running. If I read that wrong, my mistake. As far as the car shutting off when coming to stops and decelerating is indicative of a malfunctioning IAC (or idle air control valve). Sometimes you can take it off and clean it, other times it needs to be replaced (not very expensive). You could also have a random misfire or vacuum leak.

You did not say if the service engine soon light was on. If it was I assume that you would included that. There still could be pending codes in the PCM. I would check the IAC first and give all the vac lines a quick look for anything obvious. The good thing about these cars is there is not a whole lot of them and they are fairly easy to get to. You might want to have Autozone or the like scan the car with a scan tool to see if anything may be stored. This is a good start for you though.

If you have an oil light or low pressure indication even from a dummy gauge then WALK. Don't drive that car anywhere!

You need to verify you actually have oil pressure with an external gauge. You can let the car run for 2-3 seconds for testing but no more.
