I am sure there have been posts bout this in the past, but I didn't really want to search on it. I have an 04 GT with a manual transmission. Around 10,000 miles I started to hear a rattling sound coming from the transmission. I found that if I put some pressure on the clutch, the noise owuld go away. Well, I have taken the car to the dealer 6 times now to get this fixed. They keep fixing the release and throwout bearings. A few days later the noise comes back. Basically at this point, the dealer keeps telling me that this is a common problem with this transmission and that this is all they can do! I now have 32,000 miles on my car and want the thing fixed right! Anyone else have any input on this? Am I to the point where I can demand a new transmission? Or is this really a problem. The rattle gets pretty loud!

They have actually replaced the bearings every time, not just lubed them. I just can't get over "having to deal with the noise". The car should not rattle like this, in my opinion.

I have an 04 GT manual transmission and I'm also dealing with a noise. However the noise I hear from mine sounds like a chain dragging on the ground. I really hear it whenever I'm driving close to a curb or next to another vehicle. I think it's embarrassing because it makes the car sound like a piece of ****!

Does the noise you hear kind of sound like a chain dragging on the ground?

it sounds just like that chain dragging sound...especially by curbs and buildings...i sent a letter and email to Ford's customer service. i am waiting on a reply to see what they think about this situation. its a bit frustrating!

Let us know if you find anything out. I have 04 GT 5sp....and have some sort of rattling noise too. Was told it was loose heat shield...but don't think that's it. Don't think its detonation either. Lately I've noticed tranny fluid leaking from top where shifter attaches...and tranny "clunks" on occassion when either downshifting, or upshifting, once car is in gear, even before clutch is let out.

Soooooo....maybe my rattle is a tranny issue.

I haven't changed it yet. Do you think that really has anything to do with a clutch rattle? I actually called the Ford Customer Service Center the other day. Amazingly enough, the dealer I have been going to called me up a bit later and was all of a sudden very helpful. I have to take the car back in next week for the 7th and hopefully final time!

I have the same noise as you and I have 20k on my 02. I have replaced TOB and that helped none. I was told by a mechanic that it could be that a finger on the clutch is out of place a little bit and that the flywheel is making the noise rubbing against the finger. I'm not sure?? I have ordered a Spec Stage 2 that is supposed to come in Monday and then I guess We will see if that fixed the problem.

mine makes a squealing noise when the clutch pedal is in, really annoying.. it also chirps if i dont have pressure on the clutch when i'm sitting there.. doesnt do it all the time tho, just after i've been drivin for a little while.. totally gay! :notnice:

Jason yours is completely TOB that is exactly what they do when they are about to go completely out. You really need to get that changed before it really goes all the way out and hurts your pilot bearing also. Need to make that top priority of the upcoming week.

Hi. I have a 97 GT with manual transmission. I have the same rattle , only when in neutral and no foot on the clutch. Its been like that since I bought the car in 1999. I have not managed to figure what it really is. For a while I thought it was the air conditioning, but the connection with the clutch pedal indicates that it is the transmission. As I said ,it has been like that for 6 years and 80.000 miles. Have sort of given up on it.

Yup i kind of gave up on mine too. at about 28,000 miles it used to make noise like at drive thrus at restuarants. I would just lightly tap the clutch pedal and it would go away.I was told it was no big deal, that it was just a chattering clutch
I have 37,000 miles on my car now and it hasnt done it in a good while, probably hasnt done it for the last 4,000 miles.
