04 WRX vs. 96 GT

Some guy at my friends' work said he wants to race my friend in his 04 WRX
Sedan an automatic with only a K/N air filter.The guy said he has a 96 GT coupe with a manual.He says his mods are Exhaust,mid pipe,a few normal
bolton's and FRPP 4.10's.They are racing at the track this friday.I want to know what the outcome will be? Will his WRX teh owen him off the line?
Any comments on the outcome?

If its not an STi then I say the GT has a chance if he launches really well. The WRX will eat him on the launch, but they arent really top end cars stock. The STi's are a good bit quicker though.

Is it an 1/8th or 1/4 mile..? 1/8th id give to the WRX, 1/4 the GT.

My buddy's WRX isn't a STI it is the WRX. He told me they are racing
the 1/4 mile. The track conditions will be good and the track prep is quite
good too.What do you think? I heard the WRX's are wonderful off the line.

Im going with the Mustang then knowing its a 1/4 mile. The WRX's do have a great launch, but thats about it without some other work.

Anyone know what a 04 WRX sedan automatic normaly runs in the 1/4 mile?

in the 14's............. but being that its an auto that AWD launch wont benfit him much unless he was had a manual and launching at 5K so my vote also goes for the GT

The awd will have no benefit since it's an auto. He can't launch at high rpm like the manuals always do. GT will win off the line and in the 1/4.

scince it is not an STI, I would say the GT will win.

he will run mid to low 15's in a auto wrx.. they are not very strong with a auto.. all the AWD benefit is lost on that car.

Tell the guy in the wrx to rev it up to 5000 rpms then dump it into first.

stock auto rex's put down around 168 AWHP. launching sucks too, expect 2.3-2.5's. high 14-mid 15 sec car if hes a good driver. oh wait, any 15 y/o can drive an auto w/o traction issues

He has a automatic not a manual. The transmissions in the WRX's are
quite weak if you did that you transmission would be toast in a short
matter of time.
