I am instaling a 05 gt engine in to my 64 fairlane with the 5 speed standard I have the computer and the engine wiring but do not have the wiring to power up the computer system. I have tryed a few places with no luck. I did get hold of one company up in canada that said the had a computer system that would hook up to the factory engine wiring but id would do away with the varable valve timming. Does any one know how much if any power that I would lose by dissableing the varable valve timming system. I want to get this engine wiring system all figered out so I can go ahead with the instal. I think it would make a neet street rod and should be pretty quick also. Thank you for your Input.:) Dave

I have been calling around so far I have had no luck. I also hoping to find a after market system in order to not have to deal with all the extra thing that go along with the factory set up. Like needing the guages and the chip key deal and all
I am not sure what all controls the valve timing I just know what the company that made the aftermarket set up said.

The VCT system is actuated by oil pressure/solenoid, that is in turn controled by the computer. Not to compare but it is similar to a honda vtec system. I think there would be power lost if the vct is disabled, provided you didnt degree the cams/lock (so to speak) before install. The vct operates over a wide range of rpms and loads.

If you lock the VCT you will need to choose where to lock it. You can lock it at max power position (high RPM) at the loss of low end torque. Or you could set it for low end torque at the loss of high end power or lock it somewhere inbetween. What you will loose is the broadened power curve .

You're going to want that variable valve timing. It gives the engine damn good torque down low for 281 cubes. Call around some speed shops that actually race the new stangs. Some of them gut everything. I'll look around for you.

Check with Kinetic Speed Shop and Paul's High Performance.

Jasonc32amg I will try to get some pictures as I go with this project. I am working on the floors in the fairlane right now. The 64 fairlane is a sport coupe and has 15 x31 x22 rear tires.it is going to be a pro street type car with some nice up dates like the 4.6 set up that I have already including the 5 speed stick. I plan on puting A/C on it along with power stering and some nice seats. I was thinging about useing the complet dash and fire wall seats and console and the tilt wheel out of a 05 mustang if I have to use the stock wirring system. I will most likley supercharge it after I get it set up. I have a 93 fox body with a supercharger and I like the power that they make. This is noy going to be a over night deal but should be a cool and quick fun ride when done.
