Ye Gads man!
Can you say "understeer"?
Can you say"torque steer"?

...not if they were giving it away.

I hope DC has a big succes with their switch to RWD for their intermediate passenger cars. I'm sick of FWD junk from Detroit. It still amazes me that Ford basically owns the cop and taxi market with their totally outdated Crown Vic--but it's still really the only game in town. Maybe if Dodge can get out a sedan version of the new Magnum wagon police departments will start to buy those. But GM needs to get back in the game, too.

Why not just use the wagon versons for Police duty? Many Police Forces are buying SUVs, THe Magnum seems like a good mix of the 2 (sedan, SUV). Plus the 340HP Hemi blows the Crown Vic 4.6L out of the water.

This came up on the Mopar board I frequent and the opinion was in general cops like having trunks (I think the SUV purchases were out of desperation). I think the Hemi car also might be a bit pricey for police departments but I could be wrong. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to order a cop package Dodge Hemi sedan--beefy drivetrain and suspension and no frills? Time will tell. I'd loved to see the used car market flooded with tough old Detroit RWD cars again. I like my 60s car, but the parts are getting too sparse and expensive and it's getting stressful to drive in moden traffic.

I remember when the Caprice was canned, hearing stories about new yourk taxi companies totally up in arms about it. Apparently, the old caprice was the most robust vehicle for the job. I don't know if this is true or not.

There was a rumor going around a little while ago that Ford might do a crown vic police interceptor running a 6.8L v10 on propane or natural gas.

A magnum wagon acually makes some sense to me though. Isn't the new 300 going to be a sedan w/ RWD? What about the intepid?

Yeah, the 300 is just a higher trim level Magnum, but I have a feeling for marketing reasons it wouldn't be sold to cops or taxi companies. The Intrepid is going away. For cops and taxi companies who drive the wheels off their cars, FWD is just not an option. For crappy drivers who need FWD to feel confident in bad weather and who ditch their cars before they hit 100k miles, I guess FWD makes sense. Obviously FWD is cheaper for the manufacturers as well. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, but this topic gets me kind of fired up...

The economy could be much better in 7 months. There is also the initial WOW factor to deal with. The more people cram themselves into dealersips to buy these cars, the less the dealer will be inclined to offer any incentives. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah I think that the first 6-8 months there will not be many discounts. People always rush to get a new model and you pay a premium for it. Im always leary about a first year model. I like to wait until the bugs are worked out and the will be cheaper.
