'05 GT wheels Vs. '99 GT wheels, differences?

I can pick up a set of 2005 gt wheels and tire brand new take offs for cheaper than i can buy a set of tires for my current wheels, i was told the only difference was the offest? and that it would sit "in" the wheel wells a little, could i cure this with wheel spacers??

buy whats designed for your car unless you want to hurt your performance, there is a reason engineers make the backspacing and offset a certain way for a certain car, dont mess with that and you will insure the best handling for your car

The 05 tires have a higher aspect ratio, so they are larger in diameter (& circumference) than the 99 - 04 wheels & tires.
05 Stang 235/55/17 = 27.2" dia.
99-04 - 245/45/17 = 25.7" dia.

You may have interference problems because the wheels will stick in more.

Even if they fit, your handling will most likely be worse because the track will be narrowed, tire tread is narrower, sidewalls are taller and the ride height will be raised by 3/4". Face it, the suspension on a 99 Stang is just not designed & tuned to work with the 05 tires & wheels.

I have still seen 03 - 04 take-offs still kicking around some shops. I haven't checked recently, but not too long ago both GEF Racing and Mustangs Unlimited had some sets of Bullitt take offs.

everything you wrote is erelevant to why the 99 wheels wont fit, it has nothing to do with the tire size and 100% to do with the offset

yup offset. if you notice, the spokes on the earlier bullitt wheels also went deeper, the ones for the '05's are very shallow, and the center caps are different (and uglier)

He's not asking to put 99 wheels on an 05, he's asking about putting 05 wheels on a 99.

As mentioned, the 05 wheels have a deeper offset, and will stick in much further on the 99. They may bolt on, but you'd have to check to see if they clear everything. As 351CJ said, the stock 05 tires are much taller so you may have rub issues.

I put my stock 05 wheels on my wife's 94 Explorer. They look neat, but stick in too far. She likes it though, lol.

thanks everyone, especially Power Surge, yes i want to put the 05's on my '99 and i udnerstand the issues, but wont a set of wheel spacers put the wheels and tires where they should be?

Actually it has to do with the offset AND the tire size. If you put '05 tires (235/55/17) on a '99 the speedo and odometer will be off. As was mentioned the '05 tires have a larger diameter. That part shouldn't be a problem because of the 4x4 stance the 99-04's have.

So to answer yor last question, Yes. If you like the wheels, get spacers and new tires. Stock '99 tires are 245/45/17's, BTW.

i know the tires are differnet sizes, but i could i always put some 245/45/17's on the rim since its a 17x8 anyway, but the new perellis would be nice to have for a year or so .....so should i get a set and do wheel spacers??

It might sound trivial but there's a difference between wheel pacers and wheel adpaters. The former are kind of risky for a performance application and even then only safe out to 3/16th or so and may require new lugs. Adapters are safe out to 1.5 inches, and some argue up to 2 inches.

Spacers are like washers, adapters have a new set of lugs. You bolt the adapters on like a wheel then bolt the wheel onto the adapter. The ones in this picture are 1.25 inches and are to allow a set of 2001 Bullets (17X8) to fit correctly on my '67.

By the way, I dumped those factory 10" discs for these 13" Cobras recently (you can see the adapter on the floor in the picture too):

Edbert, about how much did your wheel spacers run you and where did you get them from? and does anyone know what i should do? i can pick up the set of '05 GT wheels with tires brand new for $450 if i can make up my mind by firday!?!?
