1.7 rockers on a stock 5.0-7/16 or 3/8?

I'm looking to replace my stock rockers ( 90' 5.0) with 1.7s rollers....but the 7/16 verses 3/8s stud throws me off. What's the stock stud size? Does it matter as far as installation ease? I'd like to know before I purchase a set. Thanks.

Your stock 302 doesn't have rocker studs at all. It uses a bolt down rocker. You will either have to get a set of bolt down 1.7's or you will have to convert it to studs. Crane makes a kit that does this without any machine work. Otherwise you will need to have the heads machined for screw in studs.

to answer your question - 3/8" is the thread size on the pedistal mount I believe

Stock heads are pedestal mount, not stud mount. Pedestal mount rockers use a 5/16" bolt, not a stud.
