10 or 11, which way to go?

I have a 2010 in the "mail" loaded with pretty much everything I could get including glass roof, Nav, 3:73's etc. MSRP is 42,560, but since I'm getting it through military sales it will cost 37,486 leaving me with a 5k saving to buy a blower. the car is supposed to be delivered Feb 26, 2010. Now enter the 2011 with 5.0 engine 6 speed and perhaps some other goodies. I told my dealer I wanted the 11 as soon as I could order and he said no problem. The question is should I wait for the '11 with it's powerful new engine that could have some bugs, or just go with the 4.6 thats been around a few years and call it good?

If your dealer has no problem with you making the switch then by all means hold out for the 11. I would say there will be no "bugs" the drive train has been around for a while, it was given as an assignment shortly after Mullaly took office. The reason why it never made it to the 10 was because Ford wanted to make sure there were no "bugs" and has been driving test models around for over 1 year.

Don't forget the inevitable price increase. I just paid $22k for my 2010 with under 2k miles. It was worth it for me to get the 2010 over the 2011.

'10 VS '11

Let me start by saying I am an old retired f**t. Sort of been there, done that. As with most things, it is a matter of preference. I doubt you have to worry about the reliability of the 5.0 engine. I have a new '10 GT myself and am very happy with it. 315hp/325tq is more than enough for me to enjoy the performance like the 60's muscle car era. I don't need 100 more hp. Of course I don't go around leaving rubber all over the streets. Will it out run a Camaro or Challenger? Likely not, but who cares? I'm not going to race it, and no matter what you have there is likley something out there that is faster.

DUDE, cancel the order.
Find a GT500 on a lot, or order one. 5k WILL NOT buy a blower, insalled, tuned, fueled etc...

for 6-8k more than what your paying for the '10, you could find a GT500...

why ohh why would you do such a thing...

Good luck either way, the '10 is bad ass out of the box.

I hope to get a 2011 but won't jinx myself just yet.

As much as I like the new engine, I really like the 6-speed gear box and upgraded brakes. The fact that I can get 400hp is icing on the cake.

I'd say to get the 2011 but if you are happy with the acceleration and braking, then save the $5,000+ and get the 2010.

2011 5.0 connecting rods

You can't supercharge a 2011 5.0 GT because of the powdered metal connecting rods!They would need to be replaced with better rods 1st!A person could get a great deal on a 2010 4.6 & e-force supercharge it for about the same money.The difference is the 4.6 can be supercharged & with the e-force SC it will have 460HP!I'm very mad at FORD for this you should be able to SC it without changing the rods.I was looking forward to buying the 2011 i may have to rethink this!

So, 412 hp out of the box, N/A just isn't good enough?

Go get a GT500 then.

Before you count the 2011 out, dig up what Shelby did to Supercharge the GT 350...

Anyone that has read about the new 5.0 has also read they upgraded the connecting rods. If not, maybe YOU need to read again.

At any rate, it will be cheaper to buy a 500 if you want to supercharge your gt, and add better brakes, and all the other things that come with a 500!

If you cannot afford a 500, you PROBABLY cannot afford to supercharge your gt correctly, or withing 3-4 years of purchase, so STFU already.

REALLY MATT your insulting vulgar reply is worthless!If you can't be civilized in your correspondence here why don't you take your own advice!My friend told me he read this in the MM&FF mag!I thought he was full of it so i purchased the MARCH issue & it says the powdered metal rods will not handle forced injection this is in black & white in the MM&FF March mag!Now if this info is bad that will reflect upon the mag not me pick 1 up!As i stated i'm trying 2 decide which car 2 buy & i'm ready 2 purchase!Please also try having a little bit of class & don't assume things about persons you don't even know!If you haven't heard some mustang enthusiasts would rather buy the GT & make it their own with mods!I would have thought we could have a civil conversation about the engine & try being of some type of help to members!I hope this thread moves in that direction!

I think there is enough of a choice now in different flavors and hp rating that you shouldnt need to ad any after market blowidge imo.

Why could every 4.6L from 96-10 be supercharged with powdered metal rods, but now suddenly the 11 can not? As I stated in another thread, since every thread you've replied to has mentioned this, the compression is the issue with supercharging the 11 Mustang. It already has 11:1 compression, how much boost are you really planning to put on top of it? If it's such a huge deal, buy the 10 instead, and put a blower on it. Be careful though, it also has powdered metal rods...

Thanks for all the replys and advice.

I have decided to go with the '11. My dealer said he can transfer everything over and kill the order for the '10. Of course pricing will be slightly higher. I also told him the '11 will have a few more options that I may want to buy and he assured me that would not be a problem either.

Coming out the barn with 412 hp I will not consider adding a blower right away especially with the high compression. I will explore bolt on power adders as the become availible. I will concentrate on looks, handling, and brakes, in that order.

I'm still looking for a good customizer in the Ga, N. Fla, Al, area. If anybody hear/know something holla at ya boy.
