I had seen figures along the lines of 500hp and 1200lbs tq...
Could be wrong though.
It is like a diesel in that it makes it's power at very low rpm.
The numbers I saw were like 2500 rpm peak torque.

I have seen the carb for it too, it appeared to be a MONSTER 2v carb.
It's hard to tell from looking at it on a PC screen, but the throttle bores looked like they could have been 3" or 4" each!

Anyway, the thing is light (for it's size) and has tons of potential.
Get some custom ground cams and raise the peak power RPM to around 5k and the sky is the limit IMO.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but the guy with the Stang adapted his to a Powerglide!

you are correct..its a HUGE 2v carb origionally. According to the builder its 500hp 1000ft lbs. Custom ground cams would be awesome...if you could find someone to make them. The parts are VERY hard to come by.

Yeah, I did some studying and found that when we ship tanks to Europe to free them from a fanatic socialist dictator...
All the tanks get left there when the job is done!
So, it is much easier to find Ford GAAs in Europe than the US.

How about putting a Panzer engine in a BMW 2002........anyone?

BTW, I've seen weight ratings on the the 5.9L Cummins up in the 850lb+ range. That's only 30% of the displacement!

Funny how the Shermans had all-aluminum DOHCs while trucks were stuck with all-iron flatheads. My old man has a '42 Ford Dumptruck with the 90hp flathead I-6.

Im a big time cummins fan. I drive a new dodge with a cummins. After I get done with all these projects, Im building a 30's model A truck with a 12v cummins. Nothing better than a smoke belching p-pump 12v in a car that weighs 2500lbs. With injectors and a turbo, a 12v can make close to 500hp and 1300ft/lbs to the wheels A stripped cummins will weigh in at 850lbs..but with accessories, its closer to 1100 (turbo/manifold/alt/ps/etc etc..)

I keep telling my dad that he should put a 12v CTD in the dumptruck, but he doesn't know much about diesels and therefore doesn't like them. An I-6 like the Cummins is the only smoker that will realistically fit in the bay, but he wants to use a Y-block, V8 60, or a 300ci I-6.

Yeah, Ford has the best chassis, Dodge has the best engine (Cummins) and GM has the best tranny (Alisson).

There's a guy in San Antonio who has a Cummins in front of an Allison in his F350

I have and have had MANY 7.3 PSDs, and I would beg to differ on the whole "Dodge has the best engine" thing!
The 6.0 PSD sux big time, agreed...
But the 7.3 was awesome.
I might have to abandon Ford now though, since they saw fit to dump the 7.3.

thats a lot of opinions... I have heard of many chevy guys running into problems with their allisons. I wouldnt ever own a duramax after what happened to a friends friend. At 70k a rod went through the cyl wall.. Cant resleeve a duramax. Chevy covered 1/2 the repairs. The customer was out $5000... Then his allison went out on him at 90k... Then at 130k his truck burned to the ground. A transmission line (which the great engineers put near the turbo) heated up and cracked, and in turn spued (sp?) trans fluid all over the turbo. HIs truck went up in flames and was toast in just a few minutes. My buddy way overloads his Dodge dually and pulls stuff the other drivers (Ford and Chevy) will not pull. He has grossed almost 45k lbs in his dually when the thing is rated at 28k. Its all preference. Ford has a more lush interior and has a good cab size with their quad cab... Dodge had to be bigger and better and overkilled it with the Megacab. It will be interesting to see what happens to fords sales now that Dodge is coming out with the 4500/5500 setups.

65ShelbyClone - you should tell your dad to research them. I have seem stock cummins motors going to 500k miles without a problem. I have buddies that drive their trucks hard as hell EVERYDAY running close to 500rwhp and 200-300k miles on them. If hes driving it day in and day out...hes going to get way better fuel mileage out of it too

cummins>psd....they have been running the same basic cummins motor for the last 15 years ++. I agree that the 7.3 is a great motor but a 12v in my opinion will roast the 7.3 in every aspect... milage, power, upgrades, reliability... Cummins just ROCKS

heres my 6.0 story...
Leaving for a 1400 mile trip to Phoenix from Texas
View attachment 403330

We took a Nissan Frontier out to Phoenix and planned on bringing back a Nissan Armada. Trailer is an 18' big tex goose. The F350 made it to the dealership to trade cars and we didnt make it 1 block before she died. We had to wait 2 days for our rescue crew to show up with the new truck/trailer. The brought teh black dually with a f250 on the trailer. The f250 towed the armada home and I brought home the POStroke

On the way home... The damn truck BARELY fit on the trailer...It hung off by a foot or two and 1/4" in the front. Made it the 1500 miles home in 2 days without a worry.

I love making fun of Duramax owners by reminding them their engines are made by Isuzu.

Yeah, I keep workin on the old man. He's die hard old schoool, though. It'll be tough getting him to cave.

On a side note, back on the Friday of last Labor Day weekend, I saw an F250/350/whatever 6.0 PSD 4x4 pulling a 34+ foot trailer up near the top of a long 7% grade. Actually, it wasn't pulling so much as it was stalled across both truck lanes with coolant, oil, and parts scattered under the front of the truck.

Ford is on my $h!t list for doing away with the 7.3
That 6.0 is junk.
I hear stories like these all the time.
I own a construction industry related business with a fleet of 7.3s.
They are all aging and I want to buy more vans, but I will not get a 6.0 or be a 6.4 guinea pig.
The only option I have from Dodge is the Sprinter and Chevy is re-doing the Isuzumax this year... So that is another guinea pig situation.

Well the only thing "Dodge" about the Sprinter is the name. Everything is Mercedes and parts cost a bloody fortune, I'm sure. I wouldn't want to replace the VGT turbo at dealer price......It's too bad Dodge doesn't have a CTD Ram Van.

My money is still on Cummins....

In keeping with the spirit of this thread, I once saw an F250 at Muroc dry lake for the land speed races. It was an early '80s model and it had some huge CAT bigrig diesel in it with a 6" open pipe exiting behind the front wheel through the fender. They fit the engine under the hood, but a lot of it hung out under the truck. Went about 160mph as I recall.

The only engine I've seen in a roadgoing truck that was bigger than 14L CAT/Cummins/etc was a 2-stroke Detroit 12v-71.

im a truck mechanic an trust me keep your old stuff. 2007 introduced stricter emissions laws on diesels. egr, exhaust particulate filter, ultra low sulfur fuels ,etc. in 2002 all domestic engines were slapped with an emission law to ease into the 2007 one. hence the girlymax and 6.0 psd. of cource import engines didnt hafta comply so trucks got flooded with these friggin mecedes i hate to work on(gotta take upper radiator hose dam near off to get to the canister oil filter thats upside down, etc, etc, etc). i have a customer that replace their 99 f350 for a 2004. drove it 4 tanks of fuel (made 5 mpg pulling a 35ft. trailer full of trusses) and took it back to trade in on their old one. their big rig volvo with a crane on it makes 6mpg. these newer engines make horrible fuel economy power isn't much different though(well if they were gutless no one would buy them).oh yes forgot about the cataletic converters introduced in the late 90's early 00's on mid sized diesels(mostly cat 3126) built into the mufflers. ever see a $2600 muffler? try selling that to a customer.(if anyone asks, you never changed this muffler got that) sorta deal.

anyway anyone ever contomplate putting a cummins 8.3l 24v into a dodge? you cant tell the difference between that and a 24v 5.9 unless you have a tape measure.

I could see myself using a big prybar and sledge to break the center out of a $2600 "muffler", but not shelling out for a new one. Last I heard, diesel engines were banned from passenger cars here.

A Cummins 8.3L huh?

65SC...which con-rod is that on the left...the Mercedes?

FYI, I just heard on the raio that consumer reports (I know...YMMV) released their data for the 36 car manufacturers that sell cars in the USA. For 2006 the marque with the worst quality record was....MERCEDES BENZ!

(Ford scored highest for the big-3)

Nah, that's a Cummins 5.9 rod. The think the unmarked one is from an Isuzu /Duramax. The CTD is is probably the closest thing anyone would find to a heavy duty diesel for light-duty trucks. I wouldn't mind a little 4BT Cummins to play with, but if I can't afford gas engine parts, there's no way I can afford diesel stuff.

A CTD Ram Charger would be cool.....
