what's up, I'm new to the mustang world and was just wondering how hard it is to make a 12 sec 5.0 like a 88-92. My friend wants to get one and put some power in it. It will be a daily driver so full interior, ac, powersteering and brakes not gutted is what im trying to say. Hes gonna be on a budget also.

On a budget? Cheap/Reliable/Fast....tell your friend to pick two because all three are impossible. In other words how fast do you wanna go? How much money you got?

Mines been done on a budget, runs mid 12s on slicks, and high 12s to low 13s on radials, hasent ever broke, or broken down, never left me stranded, and has been nothing but great (gets 25+ mpg on the highway too). Cheap, I would say so, $700 for the valves and valve job on the heads, $200 for rockers, $100 for headers, $220 for H, $250 for catback, $85 for pulleys, $200 for intake and TB, $100 for MAF, $250 for gears, and $320 for tires! That right is my price breakdown but some of the parts were used! Still gets me great mileage, and decent track times!!!

You guys are INSANE! My friend has a trick flow kit.....intake/heads and a e-cam i believe and he ran 12.80's on street tires.... (with weight reduction...no backseat, etc)

Were insane? I believe he has a TON more mods then me, better heads intake and cam, and runs right about the same times... If that makes me insane, Im sure a lot of guys would like to join me! :D

You guys are spending way too much to go that slow. Bone stock 91LX hatch with 3.73, slicks, and a 150hp shot of spray= 12.10 at 110 mph. Will run that number all day. Oh and an AOD to boot so no shifting issues. Just put her in drive and when the tree falls hammer it and hold on. I loved beating on LOUD racecars.

I agree with skoobie. Traction is oft over looked cuz everyone just wants hp but its no good if you cant go anywhere. And I am also all about the torque like skoobie sed. I'm not really a track guy I take it to the streets (very dangerous and stoopid I know but ask any of my friends i'm not a smart guy to begin with.) Anywho if you can beat that ls1 of the light by like five or six car links they will give up before your even at 70mph. I've done it a few times. they dont realize if they stay on the hammer they could probably take me down the stretch. And that is the beauty of torque and traction my friends.

Just a question, why are you limiting yourself to 88-92? If you are going to concider an 88 then why not an 87.

He's (my friend the one who wants the car) is not limiting himself. He and I just wasnt sure what year The 5.0 were with the flush headlights. Not the ones that are indented. Thats cool if they 87's are more options now. He just doesnt want one with the indented headlights.

But I can always throw a bottle on the car and run deep 11s now!

thats what i'm talking about... i had a notch w/ 4.10's , stock motor , 75 shot , and cheater slicks that went 12.50's all day long.

150 shot i think it woulda gone 11.90's

used nitrous = $300
gears = $400 installed
slicks = $300 new
car = $3500

12 sec car = $4500

beating the $hit out of older guys in vipers and c6 vettes........PRICELESS :nice:
