i got an 88 mustang gt. its has 4.10 gears. untouched gt40p heads and exploder intake. slicks an i think that is all. everything else is factory. is 14.25 a good time for this combo. also i added a 150 shot from nitrous express. what do you think that will bring my times too? i would love to go to the track but i live in southern california and will cost around 300 dollars just for gas to go tp the track.

Are you asking if 14.2 is a good time or are you saying that's what you ran? Like I said in your other thread I have a similar combo. I ran 13.6 @ 102 so far for my best time. So I would think you would be closer to that.

thanks dude. im putting up a bunch of post because im fasinated with being able to to ask these questions with people who have done it and actually know what happens. anyways thats a good time you ran i think. correct me if im wrong but i think the fact that you have an lx helps with your time. any other mods to it? everything else on my car is factory. suspension is factory. tb is factory mass is factory. i guess my other question is what supporting mods should i get that wouldnt break my budget build? thanks for your replys oh and any thoughts on what the nitrous would give me?

12.50s and 106+ would be about par for that combo.

Considering the fact that a fox would run 14's stock with a good driver Id say you need some practice. you got a decent head/intake combo and slicks thats a good start thats gotta be good for 13's easy. with the juice low 13's. Id say get some subframe connectors torque box braces and some 1.7 roller rockers with the stock cam.

I am also confused about the question. Did you actually run a 14.2 or are you just asking if thats a good time. With slicks you should be able to run a lot faster than that. What was the 60' ft? What was the mph? With a combo like that minus the nitrous you should be able to run 13.5's all day breaking 100mph's and maybe 1.8 60' ft's. I can tell you that from personal experience and seeing what others run. With the nitrous I cant guess but definitely under 13's, breaking 12's

thanks for the input but with all do respect i know how to drive a 5.0. i drive the car all day as hard as i can. i want it to break so i know the limits of the car. it wont break. the car would run 13s for sur but i had too much tire front and rear. sorry to be blunt but im trying to give you a better picture.

no... not even close to a good time. should be mid 12's easy.

btw just because you drive it every day doesnt mean you know how to drive it. ive put less then 3000 miles on mine in 3 years and i'll STILL out drive you

fwiw a guy i work went is running high 12's in a bolt on coupe with a full weight car.

My car should be faster also, but it is the first 60 ft that you either make it or break it.. My fastest et was actually on street tires and a stock motor..after I put the gt40p heads on my mph went up 3 mph so far but no better et's.. I am beginning to wonder if I have the valves adjusted properly.. I just bought a set of crane valve springs to replace the stock explorer ones. They could be causing trouble too since I have 1.7 rr's on it

I'm wondering what you're running for maf and TB. I saw HEADS and EXPLODER intake and nothing else... not even a mention of a shifter. You shouldn't be running down the strip with any more than 5 gal of gas in the tank either. Did you disconnect the front sway bar before you lined up? Has your battery been moved? Spare tire?

I may be wrong but it sounds like you just popped your cherry down at the race track so 12.25 with none of the, "tricks" to me.... isn't bad at all.

not sure i agree with this. i havent tried it with the LX since i only have 4 hits on it. but the lightning had issues running under a 1/4 tank it would pull all the fuel away from the pump and it would hiccup. all my passes in the LX have been around a half tank

My theory here, relies on a basically untouched/unmodded Stang with the 88lph pump installed. Hell... even a 255 will be fine for a 1/4 mile down the track when all that fuel sloshes to the rear of the tank with a correctly installed pump. Our tanks only hold what... 13 gal total?

I'm just the occational weekend racer though. I can count the number of times I've been to the track without even taking my shoes off.

My car went ~14.3 on 17" street tires, stock cam, stock E6 heads, with my crappy driving. I would think your car has more in it.

Every time I've been to the track I've ran with just a sliver of gas left on the fuel gauge. No hiccups.

Maf is 94-95 gt .. Tb is explorer..all my stuff should be in my sig.. I didn't run a 12.25, you must have read it wrong. My fastest was a 13.6 at 102 or 103..sway bar is removed.. I run it the way I run it on the street.

Oooops... that was a typo. I meant to type 14.25 and it was directed at the OP.

Seems like you took a little offense to being told you need a little practice driving.

Driving your car hard 0n the street, and being able to lay down consistent times at the strip are nowhere near the same.

Nobody is anywhere close to good when they first start going to the track. It takes a few trips to get to where you can get every last bit of power out of your car and onto the track.

As far as supporting mods for your budget build, we need a little more info from you before we can answer.
What is your intended use for the car? Daily driver? Weekend warrior? Purely a track car?
Do you want it to be fast strictly in a straight line, or do you want to be able to corner decently as well?
What is your budget for this build?
What are your future goals for it?

The more info you can give us, the more we can give back to you in return.

Btw, Welcome to Stangnet!
