this is a ford motorsport speedo and came out of SSP (police interceptor) mustangs. they can be found on ebay for a pretty good amount of money. they were made however for foxes without airbags, so if you put one in a car with an airbag, you have to trim it to fit.

If it says certified calibration on the bottom then it's a 90+ Police speedo.

I also beleive BBK will recal speedo's for you if you send it in and 160 may be one of the ranges they do

ok I am getting mixed storries from different people. I have found a 160 ssp cluster but it is out of a 92 ssp. I am being told 2 different things.

1. it will NOT work, only 87-89 guages will work for my car, nothing above 90.

2. 87-89 will not work in a 90+ car but 90-93 will work in a 87-89.

what is right? need to know asap before guy sells the guages.

I didnt have any problem putting one in my 92 with the airbag, no trimming. If you call Texas Mustangs they gave me the number of the place I ordered mine from. It was $130 shipped.

87-89 Clusters have the idiot lights by the wheel and the 90+ dont so you would loose thoes lights

I am trying to do the guage cluster, not the outer bezel. alot of people are telling me a the 92 wont work in an 89.

as far as the guage bezel on the outside, mine is missing the dummy lights anyways, guy before me has a toggle switch mounted up in the ugly 4 holes where the lights use to be. I have a buddy who has an 87 and his has a pastic piece that fits in that spot, no dummy lights. but I am getting off topic

Ok now im confused.
fivespeedsteed said they dont fit without trimming in an airbaged fox. I said they fit fine in thoes because they were designed for them. I know this because ive done it. I even said who you could call to get them.
Im telling you that if you get one you will loose the idiot light because they are different in that respect. You already have the lights gone so who cares, right? There is only a small difference in locating pins. (its been awhile since I was in the dash of my old 89) and you will have to do some slight trimming. Easy stuff, no big deal

IDK if pre 90 SSPs were avaliable with 160 speedos. If so I would try for one of thoes.

I had a 88 mustang gt convertible and I had the 160 spedometer so was that original. I got it with 68,000 on it and it was stock. Its was a salvage vehicle the guy said it came like that.

Not true, verts never came with them and ONLY SSP stangs recieved the 160mph speedo. Im sure the guy just didnt know or was lying. Sometimes we make mistakes. Its like I used to think the 93 Cobras came with white face gauges from the factory until I read the Project Stolen Goods in MM&FF.

Im putting this to an end...

If you get the entire guage pod nothing will change. just bolt it in.
If you get just the guage, meaning the single pod out of the cluster you have to trim it to fit in 87-89 cars. but not in 90+ cars.

It's a Ford Motorsport speedo...you could buy it from the dealer and have it installed.

160 is kinda a waste though. How often do you cruise around at 145MPH??

True, but why do people think the 85 MPH speedo is lame? The same would hold true for that as well.
